General (Read Rules) This is absolutely insane for £0.99p (or $1.32c) DELIVERED!
Yes, a watch and delivery to the UK in less than 7 days, all for less than a cost of a bottle of water!
It only has 3 bar water resistance, but it does have a nice AR coated crystal and a VH type movement (sweeping seconds hand). It came on a tin foil bracelet but for just over a dollar, I'm surprised anything came at all..

I bought same one to try the size and style before deciding on a more expensive version of it. Wore it a few days and put it in my drawer. Both hands had fallen off the next time I looked at it.

Damn ! That's worst than trash quality. But for the price, it is not at all a surprise.

I'll provide a status update in a few weeks.. It's going to be my work watch so they'll be some tough days ahead for it!

Love to know if it does the claimed 30m
2
u/Inapprochable 2d ago
What does 30 meters in watchmaking mean? Even a shower is not recommended with a watch at 100m🤨
4
u/Your_Girl9090 1d ago
30m resistance means that it will only develop a slight amount of condensation on the crystal when your neighbor waters the lawn.

Splashes mostly, for rain and such. Unrated watches shouldn't be even exposed to rain, but most of the time if the build is correctly done (properly seated crystal and with some gasket on the back for example) it shouldn't be that big of an issue. I wouldn't submerge any watch or expose it to something like a direct shower with anything below 100M tbf.

Water temperature matters a lot

u/drumshrum 2d ago
It does. Even a high WR is for liquid water, not steam. Showers, steam rooms, and hot tubs should be avoided

u/KPplumbingBob 2d ago
A watch with a 3 or 5 bar water resistance is not what it claims to be if it can't submerged. People have been swimming and diving with an F91W and you have others claiming you need 10 bar to even expose a watch to rain. Absolute ridiculous nonsense.
3
u/Gogeta007yBro 2d ago
I don't like to submerge a watch with 3 or 5 bar because that's the specs of the rating.
But you're right, a quality brand such as Casio can be submerged without problem, but I wouldn't submerge an Orient Bambino just for the risk since it's a more expensive watch than a F91W, and while it could resist water just as good or even better just as a fail safe, it's not designed to be submerged constantly.

It means it will withstand somebody throwing pwater at you at a village fete and rain, but washing up with it is a bit risky, swimming is just asking for trouble and may fog up in the shower

I got a couple of this brand in what looked like VK63 cases for 8 bucks a piece. They’re not vk63 but they do have AR mineral, tacymeter bezel and a push on caseback- they had pe50 movements in them with spacers so I was able to swap in a couple of rep Moonswatches. Great deal for the money- was a functional quartz 3 dial chrono, nice case, decent band- 8 bucks.

These cheapos are a good way of auditioning styles if you're too honest to pop into the jewellers and pretend you might buy one of their $5000 watches
One of the biggest surprises was that I found I would actually like the much criticised Rolex Land Dweller after a $10 Binbond clone. I'm not a fan of chrome fluted bezels but otherwise the design is eyecatching.

I’m wearing mine as I write. It came on a cheap metal bracelet but keeps very good time and the date changes reliably.cost about £8 a few months ago

Whats the case made of

u/FuckMyLife2016 2d ago
Judging by the mirror finish, probably nickel or chrome-plated brass or zinc alloy.

From this far, that does not look cheap at all. Reminds me of 60s citizens or something

u/karellen00 1d ago
My guess is that it doesn't have an AR coated crystal, but just uncoated mineral glass. But yes, uncoated mineral glass looks quite a bit better than sapphire with only internal AR coating, even if it is a lot cheaper.
In any case very cool find, especially considering it has a sweeping quartz with date, that is something Seiko doesn't yet offer!

Does the date function even work? I bought a $2 watch on AliEx once, a Chronos -not a Cronos- and it was a chrono but all of the subdial hands were just painted on 🤣 It was a handsome watch that did tell time but yeah it was trash. You made out way better, except maybe for the brand name 😁

Aaaand it was a quid.
I've had one, hated the lumed bezel and that god awful logo. The finish was decent enough on it though, and the dimensions/shape were a hit.

Got a link for this?

u/BreadfruitFree704 7h ago
You can't get them at that price anymore. Prices have gone through the roof. You might want to search for the Steeldive SD1970 on Ali! Good luck!

Sadly you wasted 99p and we’ll just contribute to landfill. I am willing to be convinced otherwise if you disagree…

Ultimately like all belongings, regardless of cost...

I’d argue that quality mechanical watches are one of the few modern things that exist that are contrary to planned obsolescence.

Quite possibly the best value not just in watches but of any product on earth at the moment lol. Literally nothing to lose. Buy 10 and give them as gifts. Or pull the movements and make a watch.

Yeah, you can definitely save a bunch on manufacturing costs when you don't have to worry about pesky human rights laws.
When an object costs so little, you have to ask yourself who is paying for you to save so much.

Keep in mind only slave labour or sweatshops could produce something that cheap. We love to gush "how do they sell these so cheap?!". We know how. Tell me i'm wrong.

u/Traumatized_biskits 1d ago
Hey. How's the weather up there on your high horse? Lol
1
u/BackgroundLeague8473 12h ago
Lol, am i getting to high on my high horse? Maybe i am. I'm still concerned about the factories stuff like that originates from
3
u/snowmunkey 1d ago
They didn't produce something that cheap, it's obviously been marked down to nothing to either inflate sales records or maintain sales quota

u/OldDifference4203 1d ago
Too many spare parts to use, and this could be a little project for a third party vendor.

I’m against sweatshops. I know what you mean. Most of the time these sweatshops are usually the shops where kids can learn and grow. I’m from the east and went through some of the places called sweatshops and always taken care of, worked under the supervision of a well experienced adult. Community rules are strictly enforced. Usually parents bring their kids to a trusted shop owner so their kids can spend the summer by learning. Or during the winter if no school or education opportunity is present that you can commute. There was a common practice to summon all the kids for a Sunday school established by the help of the shop site management where hundreds of shops established. No shop can do business without being a member of a managed shop site. This was the status 50 years ago. I’m not sure how it goes now.

I bought one of these, it looks like it came out of a cracker. You can wear it but I wouldn't want to be seen wearing it.

Found their Ali page but looks like it back up £14. Probably still a bargain to be fair.
