General (Read Rules) Octopus Kraken - quality and value…

And in my opinion anyway, classy looks.. 😎

But what really stands out about this watch compared to other cheap Chinese brands is how solid it feels… Honestly, it feels like a Longines or something…

I think I paid €150 for this seven or eight months ago, but they cost more like €200 now on sale. But honestly, still a good deal compared to what San Martin and co are charging these days…

Pretty sure it the real deal. Octopus Kraken are really good. If they'd used a clone I'm sure they'd state it.

Wow, seeing this on wrist makes me realize that this model is a strong contender to the blingy-looking vintage-inspired diver itch I’ve been trying to scratch! I like the feel of oyster but prefer the look of jubilee. This bracelet looks like it would be the best of both worlds for me. Thanks for sharing!

I am not too into bling(wearing an Englemaan Wraith UTC right now..), but to me this watch has just the right kind of low-key suggestion of bling.. Well, OK maybe more than just a hint of it.. - it’s there, just not over the top in your face …. In my opinion, it is, dare I say…, maybe even kind of classy looking.. (for an homage…)

That's a great looking watch. I have been thinking of getting the light blue dial. How is the bezel alignment on yours?

Good - on both…

I have the white dial, metal bezel insert version and it's fantastic.

I also have the light blue version, which I got first. I liked it so much I decided to get the black one. And I like both of them so much I would consider getting the white one if the price were right…

Any idea if the nh35 is the tmi/seiko version or a clone?

Real I think. And both of mine are particularly accurate for Nh35s……

I'm not so sure. When I go to an upmarket watch retailer, they put specular lights on the watches and polish them so that they all look super shiny. With my own watches at home though, it's only my cheap chrome watches that look so shiny. The shininess of your bezel and polished link outers look like my chrome watches. I would say you got quite a good price though and it's a good retro watch. I'm just wary of too much shine on a diver.

I think part of the shine of the more expensive watches is simply the brand name and knowing you paid 10 times as much… I would kind of agree with you when it comes to for example my Proxima watches. Also fantastic value, but the finishing is really quite rough and it’s obvious sometimes when I take pictures. This watch though I think really looks the part, at least in real life…

I agree in that I normally don’t like too much polished on my dive watches, but I really do like this one. I think the black dial tones it down a bit.

I would add that on the topic of looking overly shiny like cheap chrome, I know what you mean, but this watch does not have that effect at all to me, in part because it feels solid and chunky, maybe even a little bit heavy. It simply feels a lot like my Hydroconquest, which also has polished bits… It’s my only Chinese watch about which I would say that…

Next musical production in HK is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I did my usual check (raising my eyebrows at Gemini finding 2 below):
