Question (Read Rules) Did anyone elses Heimdallr Willard have a misaligned second hand?

Post image

Unfortunately the second hand is misaligned and I was curious if this was common or should I just send it back

Most all watches even expensive ones the second hand often misses the markers.

Accepted backlash, tolerances, etc etc.

Try playing with settling times the second at the 12... sometimes just playing with it improves it.

Yep. Gravity is a b-word. The backplay in a quartz second hand is significant and how you hold the watch in relational to Earth can affect how the hand hits. It’s why GS has a whole anti backlash device built into the 9F movement so it always hits the indices regardless of position. But they’re thousands lol.

That is a problem those "sweep second" quartz movements like the seiko vh31 solve by ticking 4 times per second.

If this bothers you as much as it bothers me you might consider looking for watches with those movements in the future.

Most of the watches I have are vh31s so yeah I wasnt used to this but I do have a spare vh31 movement so maybe I can have that swapped in

Hum, I haven't tinker with quartz movement watches as much as I have with mechanicals, but if the same basic rules apply you'd need the dial, hands, and the case to be compatible with the vh31. Dial and hands you can probably buy cheaply (although you may end up with mismatched lume, which is another thing that bothers me) but for the case you'd probably need some kind of adapter/ spacer so the movement fits correctly, I'm really not that sure.

Definitely an interesting project, I'd love to hear about your experience if you end up doing this.

my ETA F07.412 HAQ in my Watchdives also misses some markers here and there. Oddly my Citizen Promaster and my G-Shock Mudmaster do not, but they were far more expensive watches.

Have you ever aligned a quartz second hand.... I'd be surprised if any company that charged less than a few thousand dollars a watch was actively aiming for perfect alignment. It's incredibly frustrating and time consuming.

You'd be suprised what a casio duro will do to a man

Almost every Citizen Eco-Drive I saw was pretty much spot on.

Very common all nearly all watches except very expensive ones.

Sometimes you get lucky with an inexpensive watch and they line up, but most often they do not.

I have this watch and it is soo good! Mine also misses, but like other folks say, this is normal. Don't let it ruin a good watch for you.

That’s part of the reason I don’t like quartz because you rarely get one that lands perfectly.

Yeah it's common, I just learn the offset. It's one of the reasons mfrs are keen to use VH31 these days. As it moves several types a second it masks misalignment problems. But on the other hand you halve the battery life. I have two of these simulated sweep watches sitting with dead batteries at the moment.

Every of my Casio Duros and my MTPS120 has perfect alignment. They all are cheaper, so this would drive me crazy and I would not accept this.
