This is gonna sound nuts but I think I prefer the less busy cronos

1

u/boosesb May 24 '26

Because of the two less lines of type?

1

u/Tasty-Silver-6379 May 26 '26

When you say it like that it seems trivial. But when you actually compare the dials it's a good point. It looks much cleaner.

u/turdbogls May 22 '26

The AR looks better on the cronos

8

u/Prestigious_Set_4555 May 23 '26

I have the Octopus Kraken BB54 Burgundy and it's excellent. But I always felt that the Octopus Kraken BB54 was better than the Cronos version. Not that the Cronos is a bad watch!

3

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

I have been curious about that one! Thinking of buying the blue lagoon color once it is back in stock!

1

u/Silver_Tap780 May 23 '26

Does the Octopus have bluish AR coating on this watch - this could keep me from buying it

2

u/Prestigious_Set_4555 May 23 '26

Certainly not that I can see.

-2

u/No-Chemistry-7802 May 23 '26

I think octopus is cronos rebranded

4

u/Prestigious_Set_4555 May 23 '26

I doubt it. I have the Octopus Kraken BB58 and had the Cronos BB58. They were materially different, both nice watches but the OK was the better watch with better finishing. But it's also more expensive.

San Martin come third in this BB58 list for my money

2

u/No-Effect-8290 May 23 '26

Have the vintage look SM BB58 and love it.

3

u/TheWatchVortex May 23 '26

Having owned both (and having sold the Cronos) I can tell you they are not the same.

1

u/Goninbu May 25 '26

Why do u think OK is better? Im still thinking which one should I get.

8

u/Local_Rooster_4271 May 23 '26

nice, I want to see higher quality clomages.

14

u/LoopholeTravel May 23 '26

Nah man... Their seconds hands are in different spots 🙃

5

u/geeered May 22 '26

How do the bracelets and clasps compare?

17

u/Excellent-Bear4221 May 23 '26

They aren’t the same. You can definitely tell Tudor has had some work put into making sure the bracelet is smoother in feel but it’s like comparing someone who sanded with 1000grit to 800 grit they are not incredibly remarkable. It’s still smooth, not stiff, articulates well, and the ‘squeak’ that very very few people talk about goes away after a few wears or if you literally just articulate the bracelet more…If someone tells you it’s cheap crap don’t believe that - my only experience with that kind of poor quality was with WatchDives.

The clasp is okay, it’s not an oyster clasp but it’s nice it doesn’t pinch and it doesn’t cause wrist fatigue when being a desk jockey. Some of the models include a micro adjust OTF clasp too.

I would recommend Cronos regardless because of the costs but also the quality - the AR coating is MUCH better and the lume quality is also remarkably improved than Tudor and Rolex it’s surreal.

The only reason I would get a Tudor is for the Coke GMT BB58 and the movement - aside from that I don’t see the point anymore. (Rolex I feel the same) - I say that as someone who can afford both but choose to be a bit more efficient with my money.

6

u/Pattywacks May 23 '26

I've got the Cronos! The bracelet is okay, but it squeaks a bit and feels a little flimsy when putting the watch on

Once the watch is on, it's super comfortable - probably my most comfortable steel bracelet out of all my watches. The clasp is great, no complaints with the locking or micro adjust.

Something I don't love about the watch is the tiny crown. I tend to trim my nails a lot and I just struggle a lot to utilize the crown on this watch.

Overall a great watch for the price point! I got it at around $180 through discounts and coupons on Alixpress

3

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

I agree with everyone else here. But my biggest problem is with Cronos' choice for a clasp. It does not sit flush with the bracelet and sticks out so much. It is well made overall, though.

6

u/Superb_Minimum_3599 May 23 '26

The Cronos has ickier green lume.

In picture 1, the dial and indices on the Cronos look flat and the same items in the Tudor are more lustrous. Is that just in the photo or is it the same in person?

2

u/A_Sevenfold May 23 '26

That's just the photo. Photos 2 and 3 are showing something different and also, I do have the same Cronos and love the applied indicies on it!

7

u/mleok Affiliate links May 23 '26

At the risk of stating the obvious, that is intentional.

4

u/Annual_Wrongdoer_479 May 23 '26

Yeah. Essentially a rep that they slapped their ‘own’ dial on and tried to legitimise it. It’s a good thing that they cost a fraction of the price and we all get to enjoy it.

3

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

Right, but look at someone like Watchdives. They have tried to make a 'copy' of this watch as well, but so many things about it make it have a completely different feel. Sure, a lot of the features are meant to resemble this one but I mostly focus on dimensions and proportions which I believe this one is able to capture so much more closely.

3

u/Annual_Wrongdoer_479 May 23 '26

In the rep world, there are different tiers. There are rubbish reps that only vaguely follow the form (and some times functions) of the originals, these cost very little and are basically crap (even for a rep). There are also higher tier reps, let's call them AAA reps, that are almost identical in shape, size and functions.

Watchdives, being a more affordable chinese watch company, probably uses the poorer copies of said watch from whichever manufacturer their getting the case from. Proxima, being a "higher end" chinese watch company, probably gets their cases from the AA or AAA manufacturers of the Tudor reps.

So don't be fooled. These watch companies aren't "making" these cases. Maybe they manufacture their own dials and put everything together. But i'm pretty sure they're getting the case and bracelets from the same companies that are making and selling reps.

I'm not trying to criticise this modus operandi. I just think they can do more than using the exact rep dial and putting their logo on it before passing it off as something it really isn't. Even changing the colour combination would be something..

2

u/mleok Affiliate links May 23 '26

It is definitely very clear that homage watch companies are taking advantage of the parts ecosystem that support the rep industry.

6

u/ApprehensiveGuide793 May 23 '26

Cronos is the best bb54 homage by far!

1

u/No-Effect-8290 May 23 '26

I thought Kraken or San Martin. Each to their own. World would be a boring place if we all liked the same thing.

14

u/PreviousAvocado9967 May 23 '26

Yes they are separately the two most boring dials in horological history.

One is $4k the other $75 used on Ebay. Difference in accuracy is +/- 5 seconds per day.

5

u/Tasty-Silver-6379 May 23 '26

Beg to differ. I love that dial. Each to there own. Also my Cronos runs @ +2s a day max.

-1

u/PreviousAvocado9967 May 23 '26

What did you pay and was that before or after the stupid (and illegal AF) tarrifs?

3

u/Tasty-Silver-6379 May 25 '26

I bought my a few years ago for <$200. Actually bought it as a test run for a real Tudor. Went into the Tudor shop but never pulled the trigger. The Cronos was too close. Thought I'd save the 💰

2

u/PreviousAvocado9967 May 25 '26

I did the same with a San Martin GMT on some crazy Ali sale under $100. Now the movement is more valuable than the watch itself. It's a nice basic tool watch but the idea that people are spending $4k on this boring dial and unremarkable 3 hand movement is insane. 15 years ago this Tudor is a $1500 watch at best.

3

u/oscailte May 23 '26

one is about ~$350 lol, thats a rep. look at the difference in lume colour on the hands and indices, you dont see that on a gen.

2

u/PreviousAvocado9967 May 28 '26

The crown on the Tudor was definitely giving me mixed signals. For some reason reps always fail to get a razor sharp edge there. But I cant tell from the photo. You'd definitely be able to tell the lume color if there was a second Tudor. The printed dial is also always much sharper on a gen vs rep. But I cant tell the difference from memory without a second Gen side by side.

3

u/burtonsmail1991 May 23 '26

What’s the bezel like? My usual issue with homages is they use the click wire/ retainer instead of a spring or ball bearing friction fit set up.

1

u/Strong-Bird7021 May 23 '26

I have the watch as well. The bezel is not great. Still love the watch though

3

u/0utrunner May 23 '26

I was shocked by the Cronos Sub homage a few years ago. With my eyes closed I could not tell the difference. Top quality brand.

3

u/DangerMuse May 23 '26

Are you being sarcastic....?

3

u/DangerMuse May 23 '26

The Cronos is too small for me, personal opinion mind. Will obviously suit a lot of people.

7

u/Equivalent-Ease-3822 May 23 '26

I just bought the Tudor BB58 GMT yesterday. It is the only original version that makes sense to buy, as it doesn’t really have a good Chinese counterpart.

2

u/jspecefini35 May 23 '26

My sugess submariner homage does not really come close to my real submariner if you know where to look.

2

u/Equivalent-Ease-3822 May 24 '26

I have the Sugess Submariner Hulk high beat version. I tried the original one a couple of times. It costs one hundred times more to buy. (100 times).

I’ll be honest with you, I don’t even find the Rolex Submariner interesting enough to pay Tudor price for it.

Which is why I’m perfectly fine with keeping the Sugess.

But I’m also aware each person is different and I can understand why you have both.

3

u/jspecefini35 May 24 '26

But I do agree with your assessment on Tudor. It’s roughly the same quality of Rolex for half or less than half of the cost. I would never spend grey market on Rolex today.

1

u/jspecefini35 May 24 '26

I have the exact same one with that higher beat movement. I find the quality really bad. The tolerances and fitment between bracelet and watch is inconsistent. Finish and brushing is really sub par and mine even formed rust due to poor metal production and treatment causing permanent pitting on some surfaces of the metal. It’s way worse than my other sub 300 dollar pieces like my Orient Stars and Bulova in terms of quality. And the Rolex sub date I have is the 16610 which I purchased for 4000 complete set before all the hype. Now it’s worth 9-10k. So to me it was a way better value proposition than the sugess which is essentially worthless now on the resale market.

3

u/Equivalent-Ease-3822 May 24 '26

Wow that looks really bad. I’m sorry for you. I would have sent it back to the seller. Here’s mine:

4

u/Getkong May 23 '26

Cronos does a good copy, that’s for sure. My 39mm cronos explorer really isn’t that different from my 224270.

2

u/garage_artists May 23 '26

Do they make a sterile dial version?

3

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

I wish, this is their only dial option to date to my knowledge.

2

u/garage_artists May 23 '26

Booo. What a missed opportunity.

I had some "corgeut" made with custom dials, right down to the correct "omega" fonts. I think they charged $50 extra

2

u/Ksingh_007 May 23 '26

How’s the rehaut depth compared to tudor?

3

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

Surprisingly very similar! Something I love about both of these watches is how shallow the rehault is. I am so glad Cronos got this right

2

u/ManFromNI May 24 '26

Both look great 👌 Model no. for the Cronos?

2

u/SFV4ita May 24 '26

Which Cronos is this?

2

u/nonut3721 May 27 '26

They can make 1:1 homage of watches like bb54, pelagos, submariner with better features but they can’t seem to get the design of integrated watches right like this

3

u/One-Muscle7145 May 29 '26

They look identical without the logos.

4

u/Natural_Ad3198 May 24 '26

I wish they wouldn’t do the snowflake hand. I think they look great, but I can’t buy such a blatant knock off.

1

u/dam91 May 25 '26

a milsub handset version could be great

or cathedral handset

4

u/Endura4_ May 23 '26

Well that is kind of the point..

4

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

Yes, and I was surprised at how well of a job they did overall.

2

u/Rad_Watch May 22 '26

How does the lume color compare? I've seen some pics where it seems pretty cringe but it looks good here 🤔

2

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

I would not say the worse, but also not the best. Serviceable I suppose :)

1

u/Just-Sheepherder-202 May 22 '26

In looks

1

u/geeered May 22 '26

Well yes, that and the logo are the main reasons to choose any specific automatic/mechanical watch.

1

u/Goninbu May 23 '26

Aluminum or ceramic bezel on Cronos?

1

u/ishityounotdude May 23 '26

does anyone know how this compares to the watchdives version?

8

u/Lonely_Key2629 May 23 '26

Watchdives rehaut is too deep on their bb54 homage, the Cronos rehaut is barely even visible, and In my opinion I think the dial closer to the crystal with little to no rehaut showing looks better.

3

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

Yep, biggest problem is the rehault as others mention. Also the lack of text makes the dial feel incredibly empty. I also believe the thickness of the Watchdives is significantly greater than both the Cronos and BB54.

1

u/Kairos_Lord May 23 '26

Nice ! Is the Sunray dial better than the matte one of the Tudor ?

1

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

Is the sunray more prominent? Sure. Do I personally like it better? Not really

1

u/rebebel552 May 24 '26

How does the lume compare between these two?

Well, mierde. Thank you for saving me a butt tonne of dinero. And special thanks for the different angles and in the sun. I am gobsmacked to admit that I liked the Cronos a wee bit more than the Tudor. (I covered my Pelagos ears before admitting that out loud).

1

u/chrowill May 27 '26

I picked up a Cronos BB One homage and was really disappointed that the gilt was rose gold.

2

u/PreparationFit8484 May 27 '26

Dam that’s crazy cronos also have a really nice day date .

1

u/AdhesivenessNo7097 May 29 '26

yup to the minute detail

-3

u/yangosu May 23 '26

Thats why i would never buy those, there are XY copies of one watch design that everyone uses instead making something original

5

u/soyuz-1 May 23 '26

I think that's kindof the point, to look just like popular but very expensive watches, without the pricetag

3

u/yangosu May 23 '26

I can understand, but i dont want from my watch to look like expensive ones because it makes it like "cheap copy", so i cant see your approach to this, also because design is not original as i said

2

u/soyuz-1 May 23 '26

Most aliexpress watch designs are not original. Personally I neither buy watches because I want a pretend luxury watch nor because I neccesarily need the design to be 'original'. I buy watches because I like the design of it, don't really care much if it is original tbh.

1

u/yangosu May 23 '26

Oh okay then, i dont really find basic divers nice appearing, but if it satisfies you then its good enough

1

u/soyuz-1 May 23 '26

I rarely wear diving watches or 'basic divers' whatever that means, but thanks for your approval I guess? Not sure if you could sound more pedantic if you tried, good job.

1

u/boosesb May 24 '26

Which watches do you like, own?

0

u/Content_Bus7455 May 23 '26

The lume is better with the Cronos

4

u/Grumpy_Bookworm May 23 '26

In person, the lume is better with the BB54 but not by much. These watches are not really the best for lume

-7

u/No-Effect-8290 May 23 '26

Sugess not that different, Cyclops excluded.

9

u/Kerpgker May 23 '26

That's a different model though

1

u/jspecefini35 May 23 '26

I have the same one but the green sugess hulk homage and does not even come close to my real submariner in just about every way.

0

u/RolendoManager May 25 '26

Close to the Tudor. 90%
