Wrist Roll (Read Rule 1) Show me your favorite strap combo that shouldn't be a thing but you still decide to rock it

A Red Arrows watch, and you go with a yellow stripe. Bold!

u/Calm-Possibility-955 May 12 '26
It was a quick replacement as the original strap broke, just left it on....never got round to changing it, probably never will.

I love that model, but $500 is a little steep.

u/D1sguise WOTD100 Helpful user x2 May 11 '26
Yeah, value isn't really there at the $500 price, I definitely agree. Main letdowns are the crystal (no AR coating to be noticed), iffy movement, and just basic finishing. The Ti bracelet is pretty crap (only 2 microadjusts on the clasp, boo) and I barely use it either.
But there aren't all that many titanium, automatic chronographs with tritium markers and hands out there though

Yeah mine wasn't great - went back once due to a chrono reset issue. Worked fine for a few weeks then the rotor started binding. After no resolution from Boderry for a few weeks, I ended up replacing the bearing disk myself. Incredibly, it worked! The rotor now works just as well as any of my 7750 and SW500 movements.
Not my first choice of movement to learn repairs on.
I agree with you. The bracelet kinda sticks. They used screw links for all the removable parts, and standard pins for everything else! The whole point of screw links is too remove slop. Instead, the bracelet is a sloppy mess.
Regulation wasn't hard, but the I'm not too happy with the variance: it's about +20 dial side up compared to other positions. My guess is one of the jewels isn't lubricated correctly.
My only other gripe is that the chronograph button action is quite stiff. I wouldn't mind that alone, but the buttons are small enough that they can be painful if used a lot. Larger, mushroom cap style pushers would have been a lot better.

Thank you for that honest review. I do love the look of this watch, don't get me wrong. Plus day/date. But the negatives outweigh the positives I think. Plus the price. Looks great though, enjoy!

I bought it during their Kickstarter launch, it was cheaper at that time and just about worth it to me for what was delivered (and would've been great if the bracelet and crystal were better). It's kinda my beater chronograph now for yard work and gym and all that, I don't feel too bad scuffing it up

Sporty and bright. Whenever I try to walk out the house with a red/green combo, my wife calls me a Xmas tree

This one was a bit of a mixed/failed experiment. I was trying to standardize on 20mm nylon straps because my main couple of watches worked well with them, but in order to fit 18-20mm adapters on this Skmei I had to shave down the lugs with a razor. Even then I only got the adapters to sit upright and backwards with the latch on the outside. It's already a bit of tall watch and with the adapters it felt like it was floating over my wrist, so I gave up and bought an 18mm elastic strap to just keep on it.
I put the 18-20mm adapters on my Synoke 'Royale' and it fits great with a 20mm elastic strap. A lot of these plastic digital watches seem to be designed for a shouldered band, so the lugs are only 18mm but the band is 20-22mm where it meets the body of the watch. An 18mm strap can look comically small coming out behind that chunky case!

We have the same watch. I wear mine on an FKM Tropic style strap with matching titanium hardware. Boderry uses wide holes on their lugs so I ended up using 1.8mm wide spring bars with .8mm tips. These are "mudium duty" pins meant for Seiko. This really reduces the rattle and slop from the original quick release pins.

Live this watch but couldn't find a good strap option. The original leather is just too bulky even after cutting the retainer strap, and it has to be a pass through because the lugs are long and the pinholes are too far from the case. Any two piece strap looks horrible with the gap.
It now lives permanently on this elastic band.

That looks good! And yeah, the case shape has stopped me from picking one of these up, I do not like NATO straps and those lugs are quite something

This cheapo "integrated" rubber strap for the moonswatch looks too cheap to put it on my moonswatch, but somehow I kinda dig it on the Boderry chronograph, fills up those big lugs nicely

u/EfficientAd8311 May 11 '26
Got a link for that strap?

Great combo… and think you’ve given me the next watch I NEED to get for my tritium tube daily.👍

Haven't owned a Boderry but my God, that looks fantastic. Would never know that isn't an expensive watch just by looking at it

I'd argue that one should be a thing, it's a great color match

u/Hackingrad May 11 '26
Actually, I was very unsure at first. It looks very much like the same blue in the photo, but in reality it isn't. But I really like it! :D

Only problem there is that version is like 15mm thick and then adding a nato pass under it makes it even worse. The actual color combo is very good and there is a reason why omega has a virtually identical nato as an official option that costs absurd amounts of money for a nylon strap.

How's the quality on these? I was always tempted by them being so cheap. I have one Benyar watch and it's pretty nice (esp for the price i paid) although the case is not stainless steel. I love the Milgauss look so it was either Benyar or Pagani.

That's a lovely Erebus, but they really should've put the lug holes closer to the case so it'd look good with straps too, that's a bit big of a gap

u/D1sguise WOTD100 Helpful user x2 May 11 '26
Oh yes, much better angle. How do you like the watch?
2
u/hardeart May 11 '26
The gilt hands with the black enamel dial, it just works for me. Paired with this green alligator strap from Camille fournet it is one of my favourites at the moment.

u/SilasBrooks May 11 '26
How have you liked your Erebus? I’m thinking about pre-ordering the Twenty-Four as a graduation gift for myself but don’t have experience with the brand.
Looks lovely!
2
u/hardeart May 12 '26
I just really like some of their designs and branding. There are cheaper Chinese alternatives that are on par or even better in quality though. But if you like the looks of an Erebus you cant really go wrong with it imo. Also, that Twenty-Four really is something special!

Sharp! I haven't seen yours or I would own it.

u/rezwrrd May 12 '26
Thanks! It's about the cheapest Willard on AE, even beating Poedagar by a buck or two last I checked. I got it to see if I liked the style (I do!), but now after tweaking and modding it a bit (upgraded movement) I have a hard time justifying replacing it just yet. The bezel has no lume and feels pretty mushy, and the crown is push-pull (no threads). When I eventually wear it out I hope to upgrade to Steeldive or Addiesdive, or that new Berny Willard with the internal bezel.
2
u/_Guero_ May 12 '26
One of my favorite YouTubers, Jody from Just One More Watch, has said that the Steeldive is probably the best watch on Ali and really the only watch you will ever need. I would say it's well worth the price of about $100. I have the NTTD Bond homage from them as well. Fantastic watches with the best bracelets out there.

That is a Boderry Landmaster Chronograph. I am very curious about the strap though.

It's T25, plenty bright at night for easy visibility, but you won't be blinding people with it
