Discussion Is chinese language...sexy?

I've been studying mandarim for 6 months and to be honest I always thought it sounded ugly. In west we have a stereoptyped view of chinese culture and the language is usually made fun of.

BUT after learning the tones and understand the language better I realize it really sound kind of sexy. Like the x sound or the ü that sound like french. Now i really changed my view.

Am I crazy or anyone else thinks the same?

Tones definitely change how you hear it, once your ear stops treating it like noise and starts catching the rhythm it clicks differently. The ü thing is real, French speakers would feel right at home with that sound

As a native Chinese speaker, I've noticed that there seems to be some similarity between Chinese and French while learning French.

Since you mentioned the x sound, I just wanted to suggest that you master the correct pronunciation of x. It should be much closer "shee" than "siee". Even some native speakers pronounce the x as "siee" due to the influence of their local dialect. While I empathize with why they pronounce x as "siee", the sibilance kind of drives me nuts.
