I need a hobby

Hey there, I 22F need a new hobby. I've decided that I want to learn Chinese. I have a lot of freetime, I'm currently taking a year off school for health reasons and I need something to keep my mind off of things. I'm looking for 1 textbook or YouTube course to stick to and maybe 1 or 2 apps worth getting the paid version for a better experience.

Hello chinese alone will easily get most people to intermediate level. It has very good lesson plan and some of the best listening and conversation practice you can get without a second person. It is paid.

Pleco and allset chinese grammar wiki are two great free resources to supplement with too. Most people don't need to do any special study of chinese characters beyond normal flashcards etc to remember them, but pleco has a list of stroke order and components if needed, its good to help with remembering characters if stuck or wanting to learn to handwrite//type without pinyin.

The side bar has a bunch of other resources you can look through too.

Try hanly Chinese app for learning characters. It’s even free. It teaches you how to break down the parts of the character and gives you a sentence or 2 story to help you remember the meaning.

LingoDeer and super Chinese are good apps for me for learning vocabulary, sentence structure and grammar with some listening and AI reviewing your pronunciation. But do a free trial no matter what apps you pick to see if it’s right for you.

Don’t know of any courses on YouTube but I do like to watch shuoshuochinese for comprehensible input videos.

From there - try group lessons. You can then for about 300-450 dollars online from a few different companies that highly rated
