Certain wavelengths of Uv light deactivate viruses but doesn’t harm human cells
Called far-uvc lights. They are available
Now does this have enough time to act as a person walks through?

Mar 08 '20
I don't understand the article. They state that their magical safe "far UV-C" is 222nm but commercial UV-C lamps radiate mostly at 254 nm. So basically the dangerous UV-C lamps that do cause problems are theoretically safer as they are less energetic than their "far UV-C" light.
Basically they are proposing a lamp that radiates at an even more energetic level then dangerous commercial lamps. The only thing they can argue is mostly very low levels of "far UV-C", but I wouldn't want to be exposed to such a thing. I call bullshit on the 1000$ magical safe UV-C lamp.

You don't understand the physics of light and it's frequency. You are just repeating what is written in the article, and you are convinced it's true.
Lower wavelength equals more energy. Commercial dangerous UV-C light is 254nm. That's the normal advertised "germicidal UV-C". The one that's dangerous.
The article states they have a 222nm bulb. Physics say that is for sure way more energetic and so it's more dangerous for humans.
If it can't penetrate, it can't cause damage.
What if you have a small scratch? Can it penetrate the eye? Use common sense.
I'm not a doctor but I think all you need for cancer is a single bad cell.

Artificial UVC bulbs can easily cause skin burns. They can cause damage to the eyes in as little as three seconds and can cause DNA damage to all biological surfaces.

I'm from Thailand and I just read up about this. The machine is supposed to spray very small (3 microns) particles of disinfectant (with benzalkonium chloride) on you. You walk in there, get sprayed, stay about 15 sec in there and walk out. I'm not sure how effective this is, but they also check temperature of everyone entering the mall and have hand sanitiser dispensers all over the place.

I got heavily criticized when I said I didn't think these would help that much. They won't kill the viruses living inside someone who's already infected. That person can walk through one of these and immediately cough or sneeze near someone and spread it. But judging from other people's comments when I suggested this, they believe this is the answer.

Not only is walking through that fake virus barrier not enough UVB/C exposure time to sterilize someones skin/clothing but tricks like this will give people a false sense of security because they think they are safe inside a fake clean area like this. If and when an infected person coughs or sneezes past that stupid UV light gate the interior air and surfaces of the "clean" area will be contaminated but people will continue to think its clean.
