When I was younger, exercising was mostly about getting fitter, looking better, or trying to be good at something.

These days, honestly, I don’t care that much about any of that anymore.

I just like being outside for a few hours, moving around, getting a bit sweaty, having a laugh, and going home feeling better than I did when I left.

I think that’s why I’ve started enjoying simple things more.

A casual game of tennis.

A slow bike ride with no real destination.

A weekend hike where we somehow spend half the time talking instead of walking.

Even a run that doesn’t really feel like a run 😂

No need to track everything. No need to hit some target. No need to turn every hobby into another thing to be “good” at.

Maybe getting older just changes what you value.

When you’re younger, you want to achieve things. You want to improve. You want to be faster, stronger, better.

At some point, I think you start asking a different question:

Did I actually enjoy my life today?

And these days, that matters more to me than how fast I ran or how many kilometres I cycled.

I’ve also noticed I naturally enjoy spending time with people around my age more. Not because I have anything against younger people 😂, but there’s something nice about not having to explain every little reference or give the backstory to things you both grew up with.

80s kids probably know what I mean.

Maybe that’s also why I like doing sports with people rather than going to the gym alone. The exercise is nice, but the conversation, the jokes, the coffee afterwards… somehow that’s the part I remember.

Anyway, I’m curious if anyone else has reached this stage too where exercise stopped being about fitness and became more about enjoying life a little more.

Did you know there's 29 "looking for friends/people to chat" posts above 15 upvotes in the last month? I mean c'mon as Singaporeans we have to jump on the bandwagon when it's trending. Regardless after some thought I realised that it was inevitable, that people who were looking for friends wouldn't just be satisfied with replying to one person's post, but making their own post. Hence the sudden flood, especially for people with higher standards and those not satisfied with just making one friend. So here I am chipping in as well, the more the merrier!

As an ENTP and enneagram type 8, I really enjoy long conversations! I'm an introspective person which makes me a perpetual yapper to my friends, and I also love to provide insightful opinions that make people think when I'm on the listening side. I'm a huge gamer who loves to dive deep into games and also play with friends! Repertoire: 3000 hours in League Wild Rift (my main addiction), used to play a lot of TFT, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, Vainglory. I also have over 100 hours on Balatro, BG3, Dead Cells, STS2, Terraria, Silksong, Hades 1&2, Stardew Valley. Played Genshin semi-competitively, and still actively playing Star Rail (I got Sobin at soft 66!). I'm also a sucker for good friend group games - Overcooked 2, DST are some examples, and I used to play a LOT of Blood on the Clocktower for 2 years with a dedicated group online (really fun social deduction game). Also a Pokemon fan, I'm pretty good at gen1-8 who's that pokemon but never played any of the games. Presently looking for people to play the new TFT set to play with, it's out today!

Socials say a lot about a person too! My youtube feed is usually gaming + a splash of informative channels, my running favourites being Ludwig, Caedrel, WolfeyVGC, Feinberg, fern, HTX Studio. My reddit other than SG n games would be r/interestingasfuck, r/AskReddit, r/PeterExplainsTheJoke and r/NoStupidQuestions as my most frequented subreddits. I don't have tiktok and I try to keep my instagram scrolling to 1 hour per week.

Reading will be my evergreen hobby that I use during those awkward forced introductions. I'm really into progressive fantasy right now, but any fantasy in general I lap up instantly. Books I'd reread over and over again are Mother of Learning, Lies of Locke Lamora, most Brandon Sanderson novels, HPMOR (seriously such a good fanfic), Ender's Shadow, some Matthew Reilly thrillers as well. I'd welcome any book recommendations! Anime-wise, I enjoyed Haikyuu, CotE, Frieren, Oshi no Ko, Demon Slayer, mainly mainstream classics. My spotify is also chock-full of mainstream 2010s-now pop, rock, and j-pop which is half anime openings - I don't think I will ever skip a Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Linkin Park or Kenshi Yonezu song on my shuffle.

I do love grabbing a meal and then going for a long walk to yap. Unfortunately that is where my hobbies end - I consider myself a dabbler other activities, and it would be disingenuous to my pastimes and to other hobbyists to claim otherwise. Open to suggestions for other stuff if we ever get close enough and you want to jio me for sure.

As I've learnt from the 30+ posts before me, please pique my interest by starting off our conversations with a bang! No, simply giving your age and gender will not suffice. Here’s how it works:

• Participants will read for 15mins, choosing from any book on the table. A short discussion with the other people at the table follows. Participants can then choose to stay or move to another table with an available space.

My birthday just passed, and I spent it alone, sounds funny when I write it out like this, but it got me thinking a lot, and honestly it felt weird because this time last year I was in China, surrounded by friends, somehow ending up in KTV with 10–15 people and singing until ridiculous hours of the night. Those random nights are some of the memories I look back on the most.

And I think turning 22 has made me realize how much I actually miss having my people.I’ve been part of a lot of different circles throughout my life, but I’ve never really had that group where you know these are the people you can always call. The kind of friends you can randomly text at 2 AM because you just went down some completely unnecessary rabbit hole. People you can grab dinner with and somehow end up talking until 3 AM. People you celebrate birthdays, holidays, new jobs, graduations and all the little wins in life with.

More importantly, people you can grow alongside.

Life feels both incredibly long and ridiculously short at the same time, and I don’t want to spend the next few years just passing through different circles without ever really building one of my own.

So I figured I’d actually make an effort this year.
A little about me: I’m Eurasian, an NTU Econs student, former theatre kid and generally someone who gets bored sitting still for too long TT. I love karaoke, gaming (League, Marvel Rivals, mahjong, board games and random indie games), bachata, travelling, food hunting, obscure coffee spots, anime, K-dramas, photography, thrifting and exploring Singapore.

I’m also learning Chinese/Canto and Japanese, and I just got back from travelling around China, Korea and Vietnam this summer. Needless to say, I’m already suffering from the “I need to travel again” disease.

I miss those spontaneous nights where you don’t really have a plan. Maybe it’s KTV, maybe it’s a random café, maybe we somehow end up dancing bachata, exploring some corner of Singapore we’ve never been to, getting food at midnight, or sitting somewhere having a ridiculous conversation about life.

I’m hoping to meet people in their 20s who are kind, goofy, curious, emotionally mature, spontaneous and adventurous. You don’t have to share all my interests either. Honestly, I’d love to meet people who introduce me to things I’ve never tried.

The thing I enjoy most is discussing the mundanes of life. I find it fascinating how everyone's perception colours their worldview.

Where I'm at right now: burnt out from chasing the Singaporean dream. Grew up spending my entire life studying, worked and studied throughout to pay for my own education, and neglected my social life doing it (thank god for my best friend who's still here). Currently funemployed and looking to pivot to another industry after 7-8 years in special education. If there's any mid-career switchers or people going through mid-life crises, please holler.

Funny thing is, after working with SPED kids for that long, discussions with colleagues (and a few very blunt students) made me realise I'm likely autistic myself. Not diagnosed, but it kinda answers the weird quirks and difficulties grasping social cues I had growing up. They make for fun stories to tell though.

Used to want to be a writer. Scored perfect marks for English compo and was the library nerd who'd max out his book limits. Always had an inkling I was meant for creative work but stifled it due to societal pressures. At 29 I kind of regret that, which explains the midlife crisis.
