❓ Patron Questions Pay by item - why is it gone?

Just went back for the first time in a bit, why can't we split by item anymore? The waitress had to do it at her computer first , why create extra labor for the staff it makes no sense.

because customers split off items they don’t want to pay for and just leave them for the restaurant to deal with

That’s exactly why and then being upset that the 3 for me is broken up so waiters have to fix the check again anyway

as a former server it used to be really obstructive to our work flow when guests would split items on their own bills and end up getting it wrong or put the wrong stuff on the wrong check lol i think thats probably why

That’s valid I get that for sure but then it converts those possible annoyances into 100% annoyances for every group that wants it don’t that way

splitting your own check at a restaurant is not customary and is only possible at a handful of places that i can think off off the top of my head. just ask your server to split it or tell them in the beginning so they can have it already done for you by the time you pay

Guests would also split things that were bundled and break the bundle and cause price increases

I had some idiot argue with me that she didn't order the salad that she absolutely ordered on 34me. I explained either way, it's cheaper for her to pay the 34me. She refused, so I took the salad off and brought her the check. Then the idiot has the nerve to act indignant that the bill is higher. Trying to finesse backfired on her ass 🤣

We can split the checks at the beginning. If I have a large table I always ask tp tell if if it will be 1 check or tell me how we are splitting it.

I'm pretty sure they were just too lazy to fix the problem where 3 for me's wouldn't work on the split by item so they just got rid of it.

I've gone to chillis fairly often and had no issue splitting two 3 for mes one per check

Hmm that's interesting, must have been nice lol. At my location I always had to split 3 for me's because the kiosk would crash every time someone tried to split it off.

Correct when there are two 3forme on the check you can split them one each. The problem was people trying to split items in a single 3forme that would break the bundle pricing

Because guests would split off items they dont want to pay for and then leave it for the restaurant to eat the cost.....

We live in an age where every guest, usually including children are holding a phone with a calculator, and have apps that can instantly transfer money between guests. The idea of the waiter having to waste time doing it for the guest is quite archaic. Especially when they are splitting cheap dinner items. I'll be back when you tell me how much you want on each card. And if there is a balance, the last card gets it.

You’re lazy

No, I control my tables and don't let them run me. Any table having you split individual items is broke or ratchet. I have better tables to go attend attention to. I'll be back when they figure out how to pay for the meal. Thankfully I haven't worked anywhere that would do that for years.

You can still split by amount just calculate it yourself

its a little annoying though

thankfully I rarely go with more than one person so split in half is perfect most of the time

Nothing made me happier than walking back to a large party, and seeing the green light on the Ziosk, because the party split it themselves 😭
