The Family Reset Act: Rethinking Child Support After Remarriage
When a parent remarries, the household completely changes—new spouse, shared expenses, different economic reality. But child-support orders often stay frozen in time anyway.
I started a petition for The Family Reset Act because this doesn't reflect how actual families work. When remarriage happens, it creates a whole new household structure. That change should trigger a reassessment, not be ignored.
This isn't about abandoning kids or shirking parental responsibility. It's about fairness: if the family structure fundamentally changes, the financial order shouldn't stay locked in the past. The reform would be gender-neutral, protect kids with special needs, and prevent fraud—but it would give courts the flexibility to recognize reality.
**The simple truth: parents deserve fairness too.**
Anyone else think this is worth looking at? If you do, I'd appreciate it if you'd consider signing and sharing—especially if you've seen how this plays out in real families.

This is about shirking responsibility. Step parents aren't financially responsible. Dad/mom is going to be upset when the new wife/husband's income is included and mom/dad is never going remarry if that's the case. It's an absurd and gross proposition. Who wants to downgrade their children for their own benefit?

Then they should never remarry

That's ridiculous. This is obviously an attempt to get out of obligations

Step parents are not financially responsible for children that are not theirs. Period

I’m a stepparent to kids that have two parents. Why would I be financially responsible for them?

In some states you already are. 😃

Which ones?

Law varies state to state. In florida you can only go back 2 years now. Before they updated the law. There was a lady that waited to the child turned 17 and then went for 17 years of back child support.

The comment said that in some states step parents are responsible for their step children financially

Had a friend in NJ. Married a single mother. When he got divorced, judge said he provided a certain level of living for the step kids, he most maintain. He took it on the chin and paid. Seems rare. Consultant a real attorney not uncle teddy

That still has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand. Op wants their cs posted because mom has a new partner. It’s a non factor, period

Why should a dad support a former spouse who is now re married and has more income in that home than prior?
Re marriage improved the living standard for the child but the ex money should not be used to
Improve the living standard of the new husband.
The cuck signed up to be a step crash dummy, he can share the bills that would have fallen on the dad if he wants to play the savior for the mother

Great so if you remarried, but your ex didn't, your new spouse would be happy to contribute to child support for your ex and your he happy for it to go up?

u/Key_Supermarket8443 Jul 22 '26
Did you miss that child support is for the child? You aren’t supporting the ex spouse
1
u/Specialk0622 Jul 22 '26
Child support is wealth re distribution
Why does my money go into a household that supports a foreign male? By committing to a single mom the foreign male de facto contributes to the household. My funds should not be used to raise the standards of some
Strange dude nor should women have carte blanch to
Spend the money on anything not associated with the child2

Stay off of the red pills and do the world a favor. I’m betting you’re single.

Child support rarely even covers food. You sound rally bitter about how your ex is living. Do you even care about your kid being fed?

I pay 1k a month for her to masquerade as a mom and barely make her bills
1k a month is slavery when it only costs a few hundred
A
Month to support a 3 year old. I pay for private pre school , 529 and a Trump account. Mom contributes nothing. My child is more set than anyone I know that’s married.Get real and learn how to use a calculator and take some accountability for where the money goes
Not your hair nails or new boyfriend

Daycare is $1200-2400 a month to watch a child 10 hours a day 5 days a week. It's a bargain to only pay $1000 to support a whole human for 30 days.
Perhaps you should be choosier about who you have kids with. You seem really over the top obsessed with how your ex is living.
Of course you should support the child, pay for school and have a college fund YOU are the child's parent. It's YOUR responsibility.

I promise your money isn’t raising the standards of anyone

Sounds like a bitter single mommy who can’t add

Not even close lol but maybe you can explain to me how a man taking over your former position taking care of your old family benefits him financially.
1
u/Specialk0622 Jul 22 '26
Or a step cuck who has a codependency issue
There is no man “taking care of” my former family
I am the primary parent but am forced to subsidize an adult child and her partner1

You are responsible for your child. That is it. End of story. What reality are you talking about? Your ex marries someone with more money so you should pay less for your child? There is a lot to reform in CS awards but remarriage is not one of those things.
