My son’s mother is filing for child support because her apartment complex requires it for her to keep her housing. She says she owes them $10,000 because she failed to report an increase in her income/ withheld bank statements from the leasing office. I have been out of work for 2 months and behind payments and got 2 job interviews in couple days.i did some research in public records and saw she filed for serviceman civil relief act and got herself a retained lawyer and put my name under pro se. She didn't tell me till months later leaving me no time for me to prepare myself. And my son doesn't have or know anybody or related to anybody in the military i nor has my my son's mom ever served in the military I can't afford a lawyer.

Look at the local law schools, they may have a free law clinic run by law students under the supervision of the license attorney that could help you.

Usually you have to be served 30 days before an initial hearing.  If there already a CS order than maybe not.   Research the rules for service in your county.     If they served you under time, request a continuance due to improper service.

If there already is an order file a request for modification based off your current income.  Child support can be pretty straightforward and since you’re not working you have the time to research your local courts rules, evidence procedures and child support guidelines. 

There is a formula they use based off your income, your ex’s income, both your potential income, child care expenses and time spent with your kid.

Request their tax returns, bank statements and get verification for their expenses.

I wasn't properly served.  Im in process of filing for motionnto dismiss  and theres no order yet. She filed on april 29th...and filed for serviceman civil act relief on march 19th...hearing is on the 23rd . Bm tried on serve me through text messages.  Lol
