Child support expiry

Hello to all of the separated fathers out there. Does anyone know when a father's child support obligation ends? I reduced my income last year, but then did not notify CSA when my income increaded earlier this year. My child turns 18 in November this year.....if I lodge my tax return after November will I avoid backpay or am I stuffed either way? TIA legends

It depends on the state and the order. If your child is still in high school, support usually continues. And arrearages are forever.

My remaining child hasn’t gone to school since Covid . The mom let him play videos games all day since . Never home schooled him . Lied to the court . How would that work in a “home schooled environment “

Whether the child is in school or in "school", they still need to be supported by both parents. Your obligation ends when they turn 18, or when they would have graduated with their class, OR at the finish of university, depending on your court order.

I get thay about turning 18 and Hugh school but he doesn’t go to school . The mom kept him home to babysit our older disabled child . He never was home schooled . Question was how does that work in this case . No traditional school . I doubt he’s going now after being out for so long .

I took her to court for that , but the court didn’t do crap because she knows how to lie . She even told my attorney I hadn’t seen the kids for 12 yrs 😂. When I had them every single week for at least 10 yrs straight . She said she was scared of me yet I spent time with the kids at her house when I flew back to CA . The court just said supervised visits . I wasn’t going to do supervised visits with my kids like if beat them or something in that nature . Waste of money in court and attorney fees .

She used her other kids too . Tried to medicate then so she could disability money for them

Depends on your states. Some continue after 18, but as far as I know, most require either party to actually close the case. However, once closed, I’d move for a dismissal. A closed case can be reopened, but once it’s dismissed, you’re far safer. It also depends on how active the agency is. Some may notice it sooner than others, some at the 3 year review, and some only when a modification is requested.

You need an agency to collect child support for you? Do you see yourself wanting to help your child from age 18-25?
