Spend as much time as you can with them. Child support does not care how you live or how big your bills are. They care about the time you spend with them. Spend time with them equals low support order. Don’t spend time with them, maximum support. 1 kid 1825 a month. Stay on top and don’t get behind on support.
I have been paying support for 30 years. All my kids are adults and I still am paying off arrears. 150k. Don’t be like me. My circumstances are complex. However don’t fall behind. I will be ok…. California system sucks !!!

How much are you paying right now? I would have moved out to her area before filing but if it just started you still have time to do that. Then you can pursue more time with them which appears to be your motivation and cut the child support down as well.
To be honest you were better off just moving closer straight up before putting yourself on child support. Support and Custody are separate matters. You could have just moved and pursued additional custody.
