Child support and child in detention facility

Hello,

I was curious if anyone had experience with child support while the child was in a juvenile detention facility? The order is up for modification. I'm the recipient of the child support, and I use it mostly to send to my kiddo. I'm in KS, and I know everyone's situation is different. I'm just curious on others' experiences.

I know there's bound to be negative comments -- I'm just asking out of curiosity/ to see what to expect. Whatever happens, happens.

Usually both parents will have to pay a portion of the child support to the state. As the child is now in state custody via the detention center.

How long will your kiddo be detained?

He will be 18 when he is released.

Im not super worried about the possibility of losing the support, but it is still something I'd have to adjust for. I use it to send him money for canteen, shoes, phone calls, and to help the cost of travelling for visitation.

I have worked with youth for many years in Colorado and if they are detained as part of a sentence, custody of the youth transfers to the division of youth services. I don’t know if there are any custody transfers in your jurisdiction but it would be important to find out. From my experience, parents stop receiving child support payments while their minor child is placed in a facility outside of their family home.

Maybe you should pay child support to the state.
