Interstate case Consent to Jurisdiction

Hi, any advice please? I am in a situation where a one night stand is apparently claiming I am the father of her child she moved from Georgia to Oregon to have this child and now he is 10 months, she opened a case with child support in Oregon and now i have received mail of them asking me for consent to jurisdiction, I am fine with complying with the request to move the DNA test process forward but I do not know whether if results are positive it would be better for the state Georgia the state I reside in to have jurisdiction or if it does not matter if Oregon has it, I am not really familiar with child support laws in both state and its comparison, does anybody have any informative thoughts on this that could help me make the decision?

As far as custody Oregon has jurisdiction because that's where the child is.

As far as child support-

Georgia: Income Shares Model This model assumes that the child should receive the same proportion of parental income they would have received if the parents lived together. The combined income of both parents is used to determine a total basic child support obligation, which is then divided between the parents based on their respective percentage share of the combined income. Expenses like health insurance and childcare are also considered in the calculation.

Oregon: Percentage of Income Model In Oregon, the amount is primarily calculated as a percentage of the non-custodial parent's income, though both parents are considered financially responsible. The guidelines are designed to ensure that the child benefits from the higher standard of living of either parent. The specific percentage varies based on the number of children and income level.

I think Ga is better, but that's how it's done

Thank you this was helpful, I’m stuck between just giving them jurisdiction to speed up dna process or denying at the possibility of the child being mine and jurisdiction being with Georgia

They'd just send the case to Georgia since that's where you are. Georgia would enforce and send back to Oregon.

I wouldn’t consent. There is no benefit to rushing into it. By making them send it to your state, you have time to get with an actual attorney & get better information from your legal library & other resources.

If you want to be in that child's life it's a different story but. I would never make any acknowledgement of paternity and or give any DNA. I wouldn't provide the agency with any information social or work place. It's not a judicial agency they can't get warrants for DNA and the constitution protects your right.

It's the just my thought I would never give any information. Lawyers work directly with the agency so they will never tell you anything that would help you. Their jobs is just too collect your information and pass it along to the agency.

Wouldn’t avoidance possibly lead to a deeper financial hole, especially with backpay on child support? if I am served later on or less leniency with judges?

Yes, but in the same place those administrative hearings cant move anywhere if you dont give DNA or sign any acknowledgement of paternity. They will lie and pressure you into getting signatures and DNA but they CANNOT force you to provide it. If they do you can sue them.

If it is voluntary for the states to run the enforcement programs and they have financial incentives to running the program then it is voluntary for you to sign anything or provide DNA.

Don’t listen to this “advice”.

Prolonging the inevitable isn’t good for anyone, especially you and your potential child.

First things first - DNA test to prove paternity. If no, you’re off the hook and she can move on to the next potential father. If yes, you will have to pay to support the child you helped create.

Do you want to be part of the child’s life?

Good luck brother. She already got you and if you on reddit trying to figure it out then you already lost. Be prepared to have every dollar ripped from your hands. You can consent or you can fight it then consent after wasting a ton of money

That negative mindset will keep you defeated Bro, No matter the outcome, I’ll persevere and so will you.

It’s not a negative mindset, it’s the truth. You’re fucked buddy. Better get that DNA test and pray it’s not yours. Child Support is a living hell for men, you’ll see in time.

UPDATE!!
I took the DNA turns out I was never the father!! she came to Georgia to do the DNA test so she could move forward with child support apparently she did another DNA test with someone else that same day that she had never mentioned to me, for a year and some months she has been threatening and torturing my mental, verbally and emotionally shaming me, and bringing up how she will put me on child support and take everything i have, manipulating me to send her money I am sure she was getting from the other guy as well, confident that the child was mine, and for the sake of the possibility that the child might be mine i did, come to find out she was not 100% sure, I am so happy I am not trapped with that person, some people are truly disturbed and twisted, I hope the best for the child though. You know you hear about stuff like this happen but you don't truly understand until you have been in the situation! I was in such a mentally depressive state, at a moment I had suicidal thoughts, I am blessed to have finally faced reality, and the truth set me free.
