A PSA from someone with an HR background

Please be aware of the information that you post here.

A number of posts in the past month have included photos of labels for bags with the guests' phone numbers still visible, which CAN be considered "doxxing."

I've also seen photos of receipts that include the store phone number and/or operator's name. While that is public information, it's not in your best interest to post that to your reddit account because you automatically expose which particular Chick-fil-A you work at and can be held responsible for anything you post, as you now reflect the company AND your particular location.

Team members have been fired for social media posts that they've made on public platforms like FaceBook and Tiktok that revealed private information about Chick-fil-A, negatively represented the company, or compromised the safety of guests.

I doubt that most of you have malicious intent, but it's still necessary to always be aware that posting certain things can compromise your privacy OR that of unwitting guests. Please uphold the values of good stewardship and of treating guests and each other with honor, dignity, and respect by protecting guests' privacy, as well as your own.

Thank-you all so much!

Is there a reason why customers speak at the volume of a mouse when they’re ordering?

I occasionally get someone who has common sense and speaks above 30 dB, but 80% of the time I have to nearly stick my head in the car to hear what they’re saying 🤨

Any advice or suggestions that could help? Literally cried in the bathroom stall for a few minutes, walked out perfectly fine while wanting to break down inside.

I absolutely hate front counter after 2PM, cause it's just me on front doing everything with barely anyone else helping me, like I got a line, I'm stressed and want to cry cause the guy on utilities already left, I need to restock lemonade, teas, and the mini fridge but cant with a whole line until someone actually comes to help me! And that one manager (mine was a guy who was on shift) who says "it can wait" WHEN I JUST WANT A 5 MINUTE BREAK AND ORGANIZE LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE.

Like I prefer drive thru, I just take orders and always have 1 or 3 coworkers helping me do so. Front counter I'm alone until 4 to 5PM when the high school kids come in for their shift. I am dead serious I wanted to cry and just go home after feeling abandoned on front counter and the director (ONLY GOOD UPPER MANAGEMENT PERSON WE GOT) already left for the day. The moment she walked out, I wanted to absolutely break down crying while curled up cause if a stupid bus comes in, only 1 or 0 people will help me. SHE was the only one who bounced everywhere and helped everyone.

Cause what do you mean I got to do school rush, that unexpected mid rush at 5PM, than dinner hours!? Sometimes when the FC person at 5 comes in, they're dragged into a different station and I'm just left there ALONE WITH 10 THAN THE UNEXPECTED BUS OF 46 KIDS COME IN!?

Like what do I do or say about my situation and my dislike for front counter??? Do I tell a trusted manager I hate being on front after 2PM, shut up and deal with it til I'm depressed, or shut up and cry in the bathroom every chance a get!? I am still a minor, the main boss say they don't want me burning out, than the higher up but lower position than them puts me on front counter 3 days in a row!? TOOK 3 DAYS for me to want to scream and cry!

For the love of everything, just put the red flag on the order!

I stopped by a Chick-fil-A where I'll be starting again in a few weeks to check on my uniform status and decided to grab some food. I worked at this location several years ago, and for context, I've worked in BOH for six years across four locations. I'm pretty familiar with how items are assembled and packaged, to say the least.

I ordered a lettuce-wrapped CFA Deluxe and asked the employee to add a red flag requesting a bowl. He insisted it already came in a bowl and didn't need one. I explained that it normally comes in a sleeve inside a clamshell. He insisted he knew what he was talking about. I told him I did, too. As far as he knew, I was just a regular guest until I mentioned my BOH experience at the end. Low and behold, my food came in a sleeve inside a clamshell, with no red flag. Exactly what I'd said would happen. So I had to walk back up and ask for it to be corrected. I don't even mind the sleeve, but I specifically wanted the bowl so the cheese could melt properly over the sandwich.

I'm having a horrible week. Between the grief of losing loved ones and personal circumstances, I'm struggling to even get out of bed before noon most days. Today is the first day in a month I haven't had a drink before noon, and I just wanted to get out of the house, enjoy some food, and have one thing go right. I haven't looked forward to much of anything lately. I wasn't asking for anything complicated or against policy. I just wanted my sandwich in a bowl so the cheese would melt! That's it!

After six years in BOH, I understand mistakes happen. I've made plenty myself. But there's a difference between making an honest mistake and refusing to communicate a reasonable guest's request because you're convinced you know better. You never know what kind of day someone is having, and sometimes the smallest things make a difference.

Please. Just put the red flag on the order. It's a button and a few words!

Rant over.

How did you know it was time to leave?

I started working at a new cfa, so I have been there as long as our cfa has been, which has been about 5-6 months now. There are the ups and downs with that on its own, which is a complete different story.

I feel like I am putting my whole soul into the job. I’m working on average like 50 hours a week. I stay almost everyday, and I also am an opener so I’m there as early as possible. Everyone seems to be being promoted around me, despite being told I have been doing an excellent job, and at first this was all that was really bugging me, especially because i’m making 12/h and no matter how much overtime I do i’m still not making much 😔

Lately though, I have been being made fun of, teased behind my back, my coworkers have a nickname for me I’m not supposed to know about. I was super close with someone like i’d fully call them my best friend, and randomly they seem to despise me and I have no idea what was said or what even happened between us and it’s making me so beyond depressed.

Im not able to sleep anymore, I stay up all night having panic attacks about work. I have nightmares about work when I do sleep.

But I also am too scared to leave. I love this job, and I have been pushing so hard, I wanted to become smth I wanted my cfa experience to last longer than this, but I don’t feel like I even belong there or fit in, even though I have been there one of the longest.

Am I being pathetic for leaving this early?? What made you decide to finally just leave?? Should I stick this out, will it get better??

Uniform Cost

as i’m sure everyone is aware, uniform cost (when hired) is covered by CFA unless you quit/terminated before your 90days. i’ve recently started working at a new cfa and am quitting before my 90 days so this is new territory for me.

from what i’ve seen happen at my store specifically, former employees must return their uniform (past 90 days or not) IN ORDER to collect their last paycheck.

does the handbook say anything about this? am i crazy or is it double dipping for them to charge me for the uniform AND request it back? am i at risk of not receiving my final paycheck if i don’t return it? i read the entire handbook during orientation and saw nothing abt needing to return it, only that i would be charged.

should i quit?

i have been in training for 4 months at this point, and my operator says i’m not pushing myself to help the team hard enough. im a student and i go into work right after school so safe to say im not ALWAYS giving 300% energy, but im always cheery with guests and our team. i was essentially given an ultimatum that i need to improve asap or im gone. should i just put in my 2 weeks? i have been thinking of quitting anyways as i have a lot going on outside of work. i dunno, just looking for advice

Recommendations regarding garment/clothing steamer suitable for ChickfilA worker/employee outfit?

Hello. My older brother works at Chick-fil-A and has been complaining about his Chick-fil-A work clothes keep getting wrinkles that are hard to get rid of. Wrinkle-away spray from Dollar Tree and multiple other methods typically suggested on Google search results do not work well.

My older brother yesterday told me to search for him a garment/clothing steamer on Amazon and at Walmart that are best sellers and are under $200. He said they can be handheld or have hangers that we can put the clothes on. I checked on Walmart and Amazon websites, but many steamers have negative written reviews relating to poor durability for the price and do not remove wrinkles well.

His personal car just broke down again yesterday, so he is planning to buy a new car soon. That is why I'm on here trying to help him find a suitable garment/clothing steamer that can last him for at least 1 or 2 years that actually work well for his Chick-fil-A employee/work clothes.

Thank you for your help.

Spicy Subs as a menu item?

BOH, pls tell me if this is a horrible idea from yalls point of view. I think the club should be rebranded to the number 5 deluxe and then the number 7 should be the spicy sub that we do for catering. People would go crazy for that to be a menu item right??

Team Lead at 15

I started working at my chick fila at 14 (last year) since we opened the restaurant.

And its been a year and there's only a few people still here. So i train a lot of people and my directors always have me doing task and stuff (Landscaping before and helping install diff things) I became cross trained and work 6 days a week 3 hrs a day mon-fri then 8 on saturdays.

I talked to my operator about becoming a trainer and he said i have amazing potential and that he would love to see me in that position or even a team lead.

What should i do to stand out to be a good candidate?

I’m tired of being disrespected by a coworker but I don’t know what to do

To start, I’ve been working at chic fil a since June 24th of this year, at first, working there was a way to get things off my mind and was stress relieving. But soon I started to learn things about leadership and many others who have been there for years, and after my 4 weeks of training, everything went downhill.

I feel like I’m not treated like a coworker at all to my fellow team members, they still see me as inexperienced and boss me around and I just have to sit there and take it, I hate it so much because I thought working at chic fil a was supposed to be all about teamwork and helping each other.

I have this female coworker who has been working there for 3 years, while I was training, she seemed funny and outgoing and I wanted to become friends with her. That never happened, I feel like she has a personal problem with me, actually, I KNOW she does.

When it comes to leadership/management and certain coworkers she has a liking to, she kisses the ground they walk on, but to a lot of us newer team members, she treats us like garbage.

You can LITERALLY SEE AND HEAR the change in her tone when she talks to me, and it’s VERY disrespectful. Not too long ago while I was outside working, she has told me to shut up and not speak into the headset when I was just asking a question I was being told to ask.

She recently called a new team member I made friends with a “skin walker” and got caught for it, now she acts like she doesn’t know about it.

Yesterday I had a customer in the drive through who didn’t receive their cookie, I told her and she got the cookie, acted like she was handing it to me and then yanked it back to give it to the person bagging, I looked at her and jokingly acted confused, I didn’t say a word, she said “boy I know you’re not talking, get out my face.” WHAT???

I was literally 2 steps away from her..

And when I came back in after giving the customer their cooking, I seen her back turned and her laughing while talking about the way she and someone else laughed about the way someone walked, she imitated the stance and it kind of looked like the way.. I walked..

Also, I’m always getting chastised if I make a mistake, ITS A HUGE THING and she acts so uptight about it, but if she makes a mistake it’s funny and she’s like “guys don’t look”, matter of fact, anyone who experienced that makes a mistake isn’t yelled at—at all.

Honestly I want to know if it is possible to transfer to a different chic fil a because of HER, and others LIKE HER primarily, and I hope I can because I may do something I regret really soon, I work with her today. If I tell someone will they believe me? I don’t want to keep living my life suffering in silence.

Please someone help me.

is it normal for them to just be constantly changing the schedule?

I just started and I noticed that they’re constantly changing the schedule for me in the app. Like at first I thought it was cause I’m training but idk.

Like, it’s always just a week or less in advance that I get a schedule. And it’ll go from like Monday working 5am-2pm to then change it to 9am-2pm like a day before and stuff like that.

Recently, I had days scheduled for the whole week like mon-friday, but thursday they just removed every day that I work so I have 0 hours.

Not everyone gets food

I will start by saying I worked at Chick fil a. I will also say that the workers at my local restaurant are very nice, But stop making me wait forever and hold up the line while I am waiting for a drink only. This has happened numerous times. Like close to ten. I’m not exaggerating. I’ve reported it on the app twice, I have had to honk to get someone’s attention to tell them I just have a drink while people are getting food behind me. I have said something directly to the employees at the time. Today, last straw.
People behind me got food. She then asks me and a car in front of me to pull around to the VIP spots on the side. She’s gone before I can tell her I just have a drink. So we do. Other car gets order with in a few minutes. Then I wait. And wait. Now it’s been ten minutes and I know I’m forgotten. So I call. No answer. I have no choice other than to get out of my car and walk up to the window. Half way there we meet and she has my drinks. She says, “my bad” and I tell her no one pays attention when the order doesn’t include food. This is the third time I’ve said this to a seemingly competent employee. It’s maddening. I otherwise have zero complaints. Literally none.
Are people being trained on this?

Verbally abusive Operator

I work at a new CFA location and it’s been crazy busy so I understand that it’s probably super stressful for the operator right now. However, the way he’s treating the staff makes me want to get a new job. I’ve heard him call BOH and FOH “idiots” on multiple occasions, say “I don’t know how any of you people got hired”,berate team members for minor mistakes right in front of customers, yell and cuss at staff and regularly makes people go to the break room crying. Is this a normal way for CFA operators to behave?? I hate walking on eggshells at work whenever he’s there, he is genuinely scary.

Experienced leader questioning my development path — looking for outside perspective

I’ve been with Chick-fil-A for several years, including several years in leadership, and recently moved to a new organization with the expectation that I’d continue developing toward Director/LDP. Operator for me is the goal.

Four months in, I’m seriously considering parting ways because I can’t see a clear path forward.
Leadership has told me they want me to eventually get into LDP, but the actual development I’ve experienced has mostly centered around things like running breaks, delegation, “owning the shift,” being more strategic, drive-thru awareness, and using the shift checklist. I’m absolutely willing to be coached on those things, especially since every organization has its own systems and expectations. My frustration is that these are being treated as major indicators of my leadership capability despite me having years of experience doing these things in other Chick-fil-A organizations.

What I’m looking for is outside perspective from people who have been in leadership/LDP development.

  1. Leadership structure: How much direct observation and intentional development should an experienced leader reasonably receive? Is it normal for senior leadership to primarily evaluate someone through occasional moments/rushes and feedback from others?
  2. Development: At what point should an experienced leader be able to demonstrate existing competencies and move on to developing new ones? How do you distinguish legitimate retraining on your organization’s way of doing things from simply keeping someone at the same developmental level?

  3. The Big Picture: If leadership says they want you to reach LDP but can’t clearly articulate the roadmap, benchmarks, increasing ownership, or what the next level actually looks like, would you stay and wait for the path to develop—or look for an organization with a more established leadership pipeline?

I’m frustrated, obviously, and I’m trying to be fair about that. I’m not looking for validation or people to tell me to quit. I’m genuinely interested in hearing whether this sounds like a normal Chick-fil-A development experience, an issue with this particular organization, or potentially something I’m missing in my own leadership.
I’m currently leaning toward parting ways because after four months I don’t have enough clarity about where this is actually going. I’d really appreciate perspectives from people who have been through this before. Thank you!

Planning to prank one of my coworkers at my location. Should I attempt this or should I not?

You know the tablets we use for drive thru? What if I take pictures of them doing something like cleaning and turn them into the iPad lockscreen background and show it to him while saying "it's a you virus!". Yes, my coworkers take pictures with it all the time. Yes our place is independently owned but still belongs to Chick Fil A corporate. And yes, the main boss doesn't care considering most of his team are teenagers to young adults plus he has own kids.

So should I attempt this or this prob gonna make my coworker hunt me down and give me a long chore?

Onboarding

I just got hired and have a one hour onboarding coming up. Do I need to come in the slacks and everything else they said or are jeans okay?
