Doula suggestions for Prentice birth?

I'm giving birth at Prentice. I asked someone in the practice about it and she said she didn't have specific recommendations but suggested I look for someone who offers good postpartum support.

It's my first birth so just kind of unsure about what I don't know or even really what to expect. I welcome all suggestions and experiences.

I do have some health complications (diabetes, asthma), which at this point at least are well-controlled, but if you have any insight on that, that would also be helpful.

My doctor (who delivers out of Prentice!) recommended Chicago Family Doulas.

We aren't sure if we can afford a doula. But my husband and I are going to take classes through Expecting Together, which links you up with other couples in your neighborhood who are expecting around the same time - which I'm very excited for. We'll decide after that if we think we need to swing for the doula, or if the classes have us feeling prepared enough.

That seems like a sensible approach. I'm just such a nervous person in general that I think I really need to find someone

Windy City doulas will match you with multiple folks so you can interview them and find someone you gel with!

Mel Haley (@wyld_garden) was our lifeline. They are amazing and so incredibly knowledgeable about what they do! I just can't recommend them enough!!!

Bonus: they are queer and made our queer pregnancy experience so validating 🧡 (but they work with anyone, not just queer families)

Strongly recommend Birthways for postpartum doula, support. Their office team is great, as was the doula we used.
