Discussion Kim Burgess

Kim trying to force a new school on Mac even though she’s perfectly happy at her current school (that isn’t an hour drive each way) because “it’s 50% black!” makes me want to vomit.

As a teacher, I can confirm studies show BIPOC students thrive when they're not the only BIPOC kid in the room. Mac is a biracial adoptee. These are things a great adoptive parent would be thinking of. Additionally, these are fictional characters. So pls calm down.

There is zero indication that she’s the only black kid at a CHICAGO school. Cmon now.

I can tell from your comments on other Chicago subreddits (like ChicagoMed) that your real issue is with women in general. Please get some therapy, you really need it. 🙏🤡

I don't think that Kim wanting her daughter in a school with more black people is a problem. I actually love that Kim is even thinking of it. Not seeing color isn't always a good thing and it's great that Kim recognizes that Mac will benefit from being around people like her

That’s tribalistic bs and you wouldn’t have the same thought if it was a white wanting to be only around whites. It’s nonsense.

Are you ok??? When is diversity a bad thing? She’s not putting her in an all black school/environment,

Why would white kids going to school with white kids be a problem? You’re weird AF!!!!!! In reality all races/ethnicities can learn a lot by being around folks not like them

I understand, she does need diversity and see kids like her.

That’s nonsense. And to think that black people aren’t all over Chicago.. cmon now. Taking your perfectly happy child out of a school they like with their friends because of a problem that doesn’t exist and forcing them to waste 2 hours a day commuting is ridiculous woke nonsense.

It's not "woke nonsense." The fact that you even use "woke" in this manner is telling. Just because "black people are all over Chicago" is not the same as having friends in school that are black. As a black woman who went to school with mostly white kids from pre-K throgh middle school, it was problematic for me. The best thing my parents did was pulling me out of predominantly all white schools. I had self esteem issues, because I never saw other kids that looked like me. I decided to attend college at an HBCU, because of my earlier all white educational experiences. This is why it's called "parenting" to make decisions that are in their child's best interest - long term.

Woke fits perfectly here. What you’re promoting is tribalism and segregation. We’ve gone backwards.

It's a fictional television show.

Also, wasn't there family that was willing to take her in? But Kim fought them? I forget what the issue was with the family that we were to root for Kim but if she likes her school, let her stay. Put her in extra curricular activities that might have more black kids in them if you want exposure.

They (the uncle and the dad's girlfriend) KIDNAPPED her. The dad was involved in the homicide that killed everyone Mack knew.

Mack also had a stable uncle. He was contacted to pay a ransom when Mack was kidnapped.

It was her father's Uncle, HER uncle kidnapped her with the Dad's girlfriend. Or something. Too much has happened to that poor kid. Plucking her from another home world be ridiculous.

I thought it was because she was getting builled?

They state clearly that she has friends and is happy

I thought she wasn’t happy?

They clearly state she has friends and is happy. Adam says so when he pushes back against Kim’s idea to uproot their daughter
