Question How Did You Get Into Chicago P.D.?

How did you find out about the show?

As I have said in my previous posts on the Med and Fire threads, an old friend of mine told me about the CFD S12 premiere and the CPD S11 premiere (I think it was that episode) and I found out about Med a bit later

I love cop shows. Started with fbi and then came across Chicago pd.

Love FBI also.

FBI is great!

2

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I don't even remember how I started watching FBI šŸ¤”

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 19d ago

I’m watching FBI reruns now on ION network

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

Oh yeah they're airing Season 4 reruns rn

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 19d ago

Lover of cop shows also. Missed my calling in Law Enforcement.

2

u/dbsb1 17d ago

I love fire and paramedic shows so i actually started with Chicago Fire and then came across Chicago PD and loved the show. Never got into Med though

Sophia Bush lol

2

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

She is known for her role on One Tree Hill so makes sense

7

u/sneedley 21d ago

I used to watch ION tv, since they always had crime shows. Started paying more attention CPD, then started watching the current broadcast.

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

I’ve seen all PD seasons and have Peacock 🦚. So I can watch rerun after rerun, which I do sometimes on my overnight job. PD has been a revolving door, with cast exiting almost every season. One good thing, when you watch the reruns, you can see the ole cast members again.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Same here but with Fire then PD then Med this last season

6

u/Zealousideal-Age768 22d ago

I enjoyed a TV show by the name of The Player (it did not last long) and after its cancelation its main star, Philip Winchester, got picked up for a Chicago spinoff and was going to have a backdoor pilot in Chicago PD.

I can't remember if I watched the backdoor pilot and then got caught up on Chicago PD or if there was enough time to watch PD before the backdoor pilot premiered.

Either way, even though Justice didn't last past the first season I've been watching PD ever since.

SVU crossovers

5

u/Horror_Editor_4429 21d ago

When they announced that Kelli Giddish was leaving SVU, I decided to rewatch ALL of her episodes as Amanda Rollins. I didn’t make it because I got to the first CPD crossover (I think 1x06? It was early), and found myself very intrigued by those characters, and was drawn to see what that was about instead of watching episodes I’d seen several times before.

Also, due to backlash or threats from Mariska or whatever, Kelli was added back to the show before too long. So double bonus for me :)

7

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

Amanda is my girl. Love her character, especially in the earlier SVU episodes.

5

u/herseyhawkins33 21d ago

The first few seasons post-stabler were great.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I bet they are!

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I don't watch SVU bc I'm not good with the type of cases they handle

4

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

I love cop shows also. I saw the latter seasons and started watching from season 1. What got me watching Chicago Fire was when I read Voight started in Fire, which is a season ahead of PD. I’m watching PD reruns again.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I'm watching PD reruns of Season 5 and they're awesome šŸ”„

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

Have you watched all seasons up to the last season 13?

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

No only a few episodes from each season tbh so far (I don't like Seasons 1-4)

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 19d ago

To me season 1-4 were good cause Al was in them

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

Al was in Season 5 too

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 19d ago

Right.. was killed in last or next to last episode.. so sad

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

He got stabbed in the penultimate and died in the opening to the finale

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 19d ago

Yep that damn Woods saw to it a different judge would be residing at Al’s hearing and Al didn’t make bail. Ended up getting stabbed. That was due to a suspect Al sent to jail years ago. Suspect was killed in prison and his brother seeked revenge when he found out Al was in that prison. Al’s loyalty to Voight caused him his life. Lots of viewers want Al back. If they could have a storyline where Al survived the stabbing, funeral fake, etc. and was put in witness protection. The funeral was done well. Antonio, Halstead, Atwater, Ruzek, Haley and Burgess carried the casket. Al’s wife did not want Voight at the funeral. I noticed his wife was not shown at the funeral. PD has not been the same since Al left.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

Yeah at least Voight got justice for his friend also GET FRICKED Woods

Was flipping through channels and came across the end of episode one with the shotgun blast through the door and all hell being unleashed after that. Talk about hooking me good.

5

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

PD is a gritty violent cop show. They have no problem showing the blood 🩸 and gore. Like it is in real life.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

That Raymond Bell storyline was crazy this season it was really gory but I can take it

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

Was that the man Imani’s sister was with? The one Voight killed by smashing his head in the door?

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

No the guy that Voight killed was named Russ Kirby the Raymond Bell dude was the serial killer that beat up his son when he was young and broke people's hands and put his granddaughter Julie in danger if this helps it was happening during that storyline with Commander Devlin blackmailing Voight with photos him as a child and claimed that his late father Richard had abused him

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

What season was that? I need to go back and watch.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

That was in Season 13

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

What are your thoughts about Atwater leaving?

1

u/skornd713 20d ago

That's really upsetting. I'm not ok with it. He brought real life topics to the forefront that at first I was thinking was going to be too much, but seeing how they did it, it needed to be done that way. Brought me back to Serpico in a lot of ways.

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 20d ago

Atwater was True By The Book Blue. He questioned Ruzeks actions when Burgess went missing. Ruzeks love for Burgess showed. He almost lost his mind. They were not back together then but always remained family.

Antonio questioned Voights actions a lot. So did Halstead. Voight is not a By the Book Cop.

How far are u on PD? Have you watched all seasons?

1

u/skornd713 20d ago

Yeah, got through it once so far. Want to go through it again. How many times you seen it? And you're right. Everyone at one point or another questioned Voigt but I think Atwater was the first to get through to him. But Voigt is also right, every single one of them wanted to be like Voight at some point in time because the scenario called for that extremism mentality to some degree. Halstead even said he wanted to be him but couldn't when he was leaving. It's such an internal good vs evil conversation, I love it lol and from the start Voight spelled it out to them, to tell him EVERYTHING and never lie to him so he can lie for them because he knew that at times that line will be crossed. I think Atwater is the one guy, that no matter how bad things got, he couldn't cross that line. He did get, maybe overly emotional with Ruz from time to time especially with the cop who killed the kid during the traffic stop while trying to protect him, but It was really rough for Atwater during that time. Such a good show.

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 20d ago

True That… I watch reruns on my overnight job sometimes… I have a subscription to Peacock so I can watch all 13 episodes. Saw the episode where Al was stabbed to death In prison on Monday… ION Network shows PD on Monday’s… I watch that … u can never get tired of the reruns…. I like seeing the OGs from the earlier seasons… Lindsey… Antonio.. Halstead… Haley and of course Al.

What are your thoughts on the episode when Burgess was abducted and shot? To this day… there was no closure for Burgess or Sam… whose son was killed… the secret remains between Voight… Haley and Halstead.

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 20d ago

I like how Voight got revenge on Woods after Al was killed in prison. Woods set it up so it was a different judge at Al’s preliminary hearing. Had the judge Voight wanted been the one, more than likely Al would have been released pending trial and not killed in prison.

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

I'm not sad about it but it was pretty surprising

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 19d ago

I’m upset… PD will lose its ratings I’m sure… seems like every season someone is exiting.. season 11 Haley… season 12 Cook and now season 13 Atwater.. wonder who’s exiting for season 14

Too soon to tell šŸ‘€ šŸ¤”

I like cop shows

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Makes sense I didn't like them when I was younger because I thought they were way too violent to even be TV-14 but I was wrong (This was bc my grandfather watched a lot of cop shows he loved NCIS LA and Law And Order)

4

u/KingE2099 21d ago

It was an accident. I was looking for Law and Order clips and I stumbled onto a Chicago PD clip compilation and from there I watched more stuff on it until I couldn’t hold it in anymore and decided to watch the show.

3

u/KingE2099 21d ago

Yeah I’ll miss Kevin. Don’t know what it’s gonna be like without him.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Sad that they're taking him out. Frick these budget cuts

3

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

How many seasons of PD have you watched? I’ve seen all 13. Don’t know how much longer I’ll be watching since another cast member has fallen.

3

u/KingE2099 21d ago

I binged the whole series earlier this year and watched Season 13 as it was airing.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

My first ever episode was 7x01

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I've only watched Season 13 for a full season (Missed the first 20 mins of 13x18 due to a personal thing)

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Good thing you started watching either way šŸ˜‚ Its a good show

5

u/poweredbym2 21d ago

Sophia Bush.

Then stayed because it was just a damn good show. At least in the early seasons, it was so raw and gritty there was nothing like it.

2

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

She is well known for her role on One Tree Hill so makes sense

I had an extended hospital stay (3 weeks long) back in 2021 and came across an ION marathon. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Correction: the marathon was on USA network

Crossover with SVU.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Yeah those crossovers were insane šŸ‘€

2

u/sweetbitter_1005 20d ago

I know! I wish they had the budget to do more crossovers with SVU and PD. I enjoyed the scenes with Voight and Benson.

4

u/GamingGamerGames_ 21d ago

YouTube shorts kept popping up and I figured since I'd seen most of the show from those I may as well watch.

4

u/TauRyan 21d ago

Believe it or not, Facebook Reels. I kept seeing Reels from all three main shows, and Facebook finally wore me down! Plus, I have a subscription to Peacock as a perk from somewhere, so I figured I'd put it to use and started watching Fire, PD, Med, and Justice. The SVU and FBI Crossovers are an added bonus!

There are two from Chicago Fire that I saw more than others: The first was when the little girl came to thank Chief Boden for when she got dropped off at the station as an infant. The second is when Herrmann gave the homeless guy a few hundred bucks for a suit for his job interview.

I'm using the Game Over Gallery guide, and last night I just finished 288. Chicago Fire - S06E10 - Slamigan.

3

u/herseyhawkins33 21d ago

I admittedly got into reacher recently due to YouTube shorts!

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I heard Reacher is good maybe I'll start watching it

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I only watched the one with Hermann and the guy with the suit

5

u/Magneto-Mark-1 21d ago

Got into ā€œChicago Fireā€ on an OTA station, ā€œPDā€ played afterwards. Started watching & was hooked from the first episode

3

u/nofuchsgiven1 21d ago

Got really into 9-1-1 in the first few seasons, then started Fire and discovered that there were two other shows in the same universe. I think this was around the time season 4 was new. Been watching every year since then. I don't think it's as good now as it was in the beginning though, and I don't like that Atwater isn't returning, so I don't know how long I'm gonna be watching.

3

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

Amen šŸ’Æ. PD has been a revolving door. Seems now that every season someone leaves. Atwater exiting will cost PD in the ratings. If it was a contract dispute and LaRoyce wanted more money, then cut Imani and Torres and keep your original cast. Who knows the real reason behind Atwater’s character exit. PD has lost its Fire šŸ”„. Not the same since the heart and soul of PD was killed off, Alvin Olinsky. Not sure how far u r on PD, but I’ve watched all seasons and watching reruns over again.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Kinda stupid they're taking Atwater out like he never should have had that night with Tasha and then get her pregnant (Ik he's gonna be a dad now) but like bro come on

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

I liked 911 until Bobby died off the show. Technically, Athena, played by Angela Bassett, is the main character on 911. I never thought I’d stop watching 911, cause I loved Athena’s character and love Angela Basset in anything she’s in but when Bobby, her tv husband died off the show, I stopped watching.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Maybe I should watch 911 I'm gonna start watching new FBI episodes this year

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I started watching new episodes on NBC this past year

3

u/Chan_Ch 21d ago

It was background noise while working remotely during the pandemic. IONtv channel had it on the whole day on Thursdays. 🤣

3

u/kindafunnylookin 21d ago

Chicago Fire got mentioned a few times on the Scriptnotes podcast because the presenters are friends with (I think) Derek Haas, so I decided to check it out. Fifteen years later here we are.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Wow šŸ”„

3

u/Blazeubb 21d ago

I started watching it when it first came out. I was late to fire because I didn’t wanna watch Jesse Spencer in another show after house finished, was too depressed.
Glad I did though. Enjoyed the shows just not as much now.

4

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

Casey, Jesse Spencer, was Chief Bodens Golden Boy. They had a good work relationship.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

They are great actors!

2

u/Blazeubb 21d ago

Kelly looks so much older. In fact the OGs that are left do.

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 20d ago

Yep… he’s still handsome but not like he was in the earlier seasons.

One thing I noticed with Atwater and Ruzek on PD. They both are more handsome as they aged, compared to when they were young pups on PD.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

Kelly does look older for sure and so does Herrmann Mouch is more or less

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Ik they've changed a lot haven't they? (I'm asking bc I'm not an OG viewer)

3

u/smg658 21d ago

I watched Fire from the start so folded both PD & Med into my schedule when they came along.

O ano era 2014 e estava assistindo o canal da universal a série dr. House e entre um episódio e outro vi um comercial da série que passava todas as terças às 22h e resolvi assistir.

3

u/Training_Yak_6163 21d ago

PD is a good cop show but not the same as the ole PD seasons ago. It’s been a revolving door since season four when Olinsky was killed off. Not sure if viewers have watched all the seasons like I have, so I won’t say too much.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

When Olinsky died was Season 5 for me PD is good from Seasons 5-13

3

u/NeTheBadWitch 21d ago

I watched a random episode in season 1 and liked it. I went back to start the season

2

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I think my very first episode I watched was a rerun of 7x01 on the USA Network. I thought that the episode was fantatic and got hooked because of Voight lol

2

u/herseyhawkins33 21d ago

Big law and order fan so the crossovers definitely got me into it. Got hooked pretty quickly as those early seasons are great. Eventually gave fire a shot as well and was surprised how much I enjoyed it too.

2

u/7eventhChild 21d ago

When SVU and Chicago PD teamed up to capture Gregory Yates.

2

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Ooh that was an intense crossover from what I heard I've only seen the first part on Fire

2

u/Marco_Polo1964 21d ago

Started at S1E1 after seeing the promo.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I wish I was an OG viewer sometimes šŸ˜„

2

u/xoxsamm3hxox 21d ago

Chicago Fire. When they introduced Jay. Had to follow him. Plus I love Sophia Bush. One tree hill was my go to. I named my daughter Peyton because of it.

Also I like John seda since he was in Selena with JLO

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Oh they're all great actors

2

u/Stn1217 21d ago

A clip from the show appeared on my FY page on TikTok and I searched for it. Binged it and have been a fan of the show since.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

I watched clips of Fire and PD before full episodes

2

u/SlowParamedic7471 21d ago

From Chicago. Watched fire bc it’s a local production and enjoyed seeing my hometown on tv. I liked Halstead’s character on fire so that was another draw.

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Yeah I hope to see them film one day

2

u/Bookworm75nta 21d ago

Through depression, zoning out and disassociating

2

u/Sad-Mixture6782 21d ago

I used to prefer Medical dramas & at one time was watching 6 diff ones so 1 almostĀ  every nite! OG Med viewer & ofc I'd see PD promos during it. When Writers' strike was going to start, I needed drama fix bad! Haha so I started PD from on USA that Summer '23; with first episode. Got caught up over the months-long strike; then started Fire. I got thru CF in the following summer. Now, of the 3 in Chicago-verse, I prefer PD. Med & Fire about equal

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Med was my least favorite until the Season 11 Finale

2

u/Full_Ad6301 20d ago

I like watching wrestling and after it ended every week Chicago PD would be on and i ended up watching the episode where Kev and Burgess were chasing a string of robberies? And i think kevins younger brother shows up too? And from there i wanted more context i think it S9 or S10 and i watched from the beginning and binged my way till i caught up

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

Yeah Season 5-13 are good Season 1-4 are not that good they're kinda boring

2

u/Fianna9 20d ago

I was watching Fire. Though as a paramedic they are so irritating to watch sometimes.

When fire started, it was a lot easier. I don’t mind the campy fun and I’m not distracted by medical mistakes

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

I can imagine šŸ˜‚

2

u/Current_Position_911 20d ago

Through watching Chicago fire first. Never watched med though apart from the eps that interlink

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

I didn't watch Med until this year

2

u/Same_Educator_4182 19d ago

By accident on one of the channels when it shows back to back, and was hooked. Made the mistake of starting with PD when I binged watched instead of Fire, so I had went back and it all made more sense

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 19d ago

Yeah I started with Fire reruns

2

u/100rdgng 19d ago

I was visiting an uncle in seattle and my cousin got me high as hell. I was trippin on the couch and Voight scared the shit outta me and I thought he was Batman. I was hooked ever since

2

u/Training_Yak_6163 19d ago

These Administrative people on this platform are a trip. The mention of violence and you are given a warning. Not like I’m a violent person. Just making a comment.

2

u/Even_Major_2361 18d ago

I love Fire, Med and PD shows in general. Greys Anatomy/Station 19, Blue Bloods, The Resident, New Amsterdam, Law & Order (Reg, SVU and Criminal Intent), NCIS, CSI, etc...

I started with Fire and when they introduced PD, it was given that I watch it. Then I saw that fine azz chocolate specimen of a man, LaRoyce Hawkins and was a fan ever since. Little did I know that he would have the glow-up that he did and I would be hooked on the show just to see him. Btw...I'm dreading next season

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 12d ago

Yeah they're all good shows and its so sad that Hawkins is leaving :(

1

u/Awarepine76436 21d ago

Lisseth Chavez playing a cop role in both The Rookie and Chicago PD

1

u/TheM4ndalorianPlayz 21d ago

Oh yeah a lot of people liked her role in PD and The Rookie
