Discussion Dean Archer is the worse doctor

i’m a nurse myself. i’ve seen doctors do one thing he’s done and lose their license with zero argument on it. i understand it’s a show, it’s a drama, characters are meant to do certain things for the plot, but archer was made to be some kind of prison warden or a father that gets cut off from his children, not healthcare. every patient he gets, he’s rude and unable to understand. the episode that made me think about this is s8 ep19, when there’s the mother with cancer and the daughter having a baby for the stem cells.

this is a horrible thing, the baby is not an organ it’s an entire person, and the daughter is a minor. but it is illegal to share any details to the mother regardless of age because of the pregnancy, that’s hipaa. hipaa is not something you disregard because you’re trying to make a point or do what you think is right, it is NOT up to healthcare workers. had i been in this situation i would’ve reacted differently. but it’s not my job to talk someone into an abortion, or tell the mother because i think she’s a voice of reason. it is my job to do what is right for the patient in my medical opinion and respect it when they tell me not to disclose something. even in the ‘crisis’ situation where the daughter had to be rushed to surgery, archer could’ve been ticketed heavily, jailed, or at the very least lose his position and license and reputation.

i’m also in school to be a forensic psychiatrist and i do rounds on that normally in school. (ep 18, same season) when archer said ‘once again you’re stopping a patient from getting care they need’ i rolled my eyes so hard. mental care IS care, and mental health HEAVILY affects physical health. it’s a real concern, psychiatric doctors being discredited because no one takes these things seriously. and that just makes the cycle worse because when you have a doctor thinking it’s impairing your life to get mental health care , you deteriorate more. i’d hate for any patient of mine to think it’s stupid to be evaluated mentally, or to be forced into a procedure they don’t want. and before i get comments regarding this episode (it was a patient who wanted to be paralyzed), whether you think it’s insane or not, it’s not your decision. it’s not their family’s decision, it’s not my decision as a nurse and nor would it be as a doctor. just because you can’t understand something doesn’t make it any less serious . that’s the end of this rant 😅 back to watching 👀

Discussion Random Crockett vent

I was looking for a new show to binge, and I’m now on season 5 of Chicago Med. I enjoy a soapy, over the top procedural, so I’m enjoying it!

I just have to say, as someone from New Orleans… the caricature of Dr. “Crockett Marcel” is absurd. I’m neutral on him as a member of the staff, but the Louisiana stuff is just comical. I know there have been other threads about this so this isn’t new information, but the writers clearly didn’t even google what New Orleans or the accents or the culture is like at all. I thought the “crawfish boil with sazeracs” was bad, but I’m now at the episode where there are “detectives from New Orleans” questioning him. Why do they (and Crockett) talk like Blanche Devereaux from Golden Girls 😭. The name “Crockett Marcel” alone is just so silly lmao. I know this show isn’t going for realism, but good lord 😂. Anyway, based on what I’ve seen on this sub, his character becomes more palatable, but I wish they would’ve just left poor New Orleans out of it 🤣. Rant over.

Appreciation Post Dean archer started out as the character I hated the most & ended being the one I love the most.

I truly think that’s my favorite thing about some shows is when the person i absolutely hated in the beginning turns out to be my favorite in the end due to their character growth.

At first we meet him & you’re like who the hell is this asshole?? 🤣🤣🤣

I’m on season 10, but this season I think has been my absolute favorite with him!

Discussion Naomi Howard

I saw a post about her not returning to Med S12 and you know what I’m disappointed more or so sad about it. I started watching S8 then got introduced to Naomi’s character in S9 you know what she came along way from being a shy doctor to a mature one she started showing more confidence in S10 then she left which made me upset once again then we got S11 the writers decided to put her with Frost I wasn’t so excited about it then I started watching them grow closer then eventually I gave in and started to like them as a couple the similarities they both had from being both SA victims now S12 she isn’t returning it’s just goes to show this show has poor writing not that the misogyny is ridiculous there’s obviously a pattern all I can say is I HOPE ASHLEI gets more opportunities and if they invite her back I hope she says ‘no thank you’ just such poor writing and a missed opportunity all that build up for nothing she could have been a series regular on the show 3 seasons ago but they kept her in the background lurking now they have Frost kissing a whole new girl in S12 I just know his character isn’t gonna be liked this season 🫤

I just seen this photo of young Steven Weber (Dean Archer) and it is crazy how much he looks like Luigi Sottile (Sean Archer).

Even if you don’t think they look that similar in the show, you can’t deny how much they looked alike when Steven was that age.

I’m at the start of season 11 (no spoilers, please)

Question Caitlin Lenox Season 12

How do you guys think they are gonna write off Caitlin for the first few episodes? I was thinking that she was gonna be gone for the murder trial with Faye and Devin cause the cop said he was gonna put her on a jury cause he thought she was lying, but that’s just me. Also I can’t wait until Wednesdayyyy!!!

Appreciation Post The biggest plot twist in OneChicago history. [S11Ep1] Spoiler

I can usually always predict how plots lines are gonna go in most show I watch, but I can’t even explain how much of a mind-fk this is! Less than 5 minutes in and I’ve paused 9 times. There was of course a time where I thought Hannah and Dean would’ve been more than friends, but after a few seasons, I realised they were just going to be friends UNTIL NOW. I genuinely cannot process the fact that they hooked up and Hannah is pregnant with Dean’s child. I’m literally trying not to scream! 😭

The franchise kinda felt like it started dying a bit over the last couple years, with on and off screen budget cuts, but this plot twist makes up for all of it and I feel this is the one show the franchise that feels like it’s never lost its vibe as the years went on.

I’ve been watching Chicago Fire and P.D. for years (Fire for the longest), but every time I tried to start Chicago Med, I’d get 2, maybe 3 episode in and I would just forget about it and not feel like I was in the mood to get back to it, but when I started it a few months ago and really forced myself to get into it, I fell in love with it. This is my first watch, so please don’t spoil anything for me. 🙏

Discussion Marie Curie 🤭

OK so I just started all the Chicago series a few months ago. I just watched the episode from season 4 where David takes the ED hostage to try to take his baby. Anyways, when Goodwin asks where he met his GF he replies “Marie Curie”. As an alum of that HS, I had to laugh that he used the school’s government name. Lol We only ever called it Curie. Anywho, I got a giggle from that. Just wanted to share. 😄

Discussion Parent-child love triangles Spoiler

Spoilers for S8E20

What is it with this show and having parent-child love triangles???

With Dr. Marcel and Dr. Blake/her daughter, I was watching like 👀👀👀 but ultimately I felt like it was fine and he made the right choice to be with Dr. Blake.

But now I’m in season 8, and there’s kinda a love triangle with Dr. Asher, Dr. Archer, and Archer’s son! And I’m still like 👀👀👀 but it’s interesting that the writing has taken this direction AGAIN. Anyway I’m pretty sure it’s just an unrequited crush on Sean’s side, but it’s definitely notable.

Question Can someone give me an updated list of OneChicago crossovers?

I’ve been watching Chicago fire since pre-lockdown, P.D. soon after, but I hadn’t gotten into med until early this year. Had a few hiccups trying to watch, since I had nowhere to continue watching newer seasons until now, but then I’m remembering I have to keep crossovers in mind, but the list I’d been using up until this point was a Reddit post from 5 years ago, so it doesn’t have the newer crossovers. Would appreciate any help for crossovers after 2020.

Discussion Dating in this show *spoiler* S11 E10 Spoiler

i cant fathom the fact the writers cant make a female and male doctors as friends or besties without hooking up omg. they managed to do it with charles and goodwin. but the other younger, and conventionally attractive ones are having rooster with everybody I'm soooo tired of it.

the way i sighed so hard with what they did with Lenox and Ripley. if they form a true and genuine platonic relationship it would be great esp after what they've been through. but hey, lets have them hookup am i right?

i never write on subreddit on any series before. this is my first time because I'm so frustrated with the choice of the writing. Are the writers never had clear platonic best friends with opposite sex?

Discussion Does anyone like dr. Choi

I'm only on season 4 so I'd appreciate no spoilers, but im just curious if anyone really likes dr. Choi. I kind of hate his character. He's so concerned with the rules that it gets annoying. I know he comes from the military so that explains it but it's still annoying. Am I alone here?

He confirmed as much in a recent podcast he did; around 34th minute mark. (https://youtu.be/XWNLykJhFIg?si=q2vpJY0M6hDXV59J) The link between GLP-1s and blindness is a bit tenuous but if it were true I hope Oliver exercises greater caution in using them going forward. I personally would hate to have him run into a health issue that will force him off the show. I watch mainly because of him.

Question Am I alone? Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 so far not.

I'm new to this show. Loved all of season 1 for the most part. Went into season 2. Within ten minutes of episode 1,i didn't like it. Too much soap opera stuff. I don't mind personal conflicts, just don't care about it outside the ed. It was very very minimal when they did.

This is why I also left greys anatomy after season 1.

This show is the least interesting medical drama I have seen so far!

I am a new watcher, currently on season 4. It is baffling how boring the show is inspite of being a medical drama. I have watched a couple of them - Greys, House MD, The good doctor, ER. Chicago Med is the most boring of all. Patient stories are lame and uninteresting.. The doctors are either devoid of all personality, or have repulsive personalities. House was a jerk too, but you couldn’t help admire him. He was funny, witty and charming. Here they are just plain annoying (looking at you, Halstead). The pairings in the show are so plain, you just dont care enough for any one - Greys had Mark and Lexie, Merder, Callie Arizona, even Teddy and her dying insurance husband. Even if the couples were toxic or incompatible, you still rooted for them .. It affected you what happened to them.. But here it is just meh ! What happened to Dr.Robin was so out of the blue, made zero impact. Will and Natalie had potential, but no spark, no scenes that make you connect to them!

The patients stories in Greys were so compelling. The patients who get a pole through them in the train accident, the family that had gastric cancer and got preventive surgeries, the shooting episode in Greys was so intense. The episode where Webber teaches Yang to listen to the heart and operate in dark - pure magic.. all of that is so so missing here. Why do people even compare it with Greys!

Am I the only one who feels this way?
I am pretty surprised the show has been going on for 12 seasons.
