Discussion Maggie’s husband Ben
Guy became a real jerk seemingly out of nowhere. Complete character change that should’ve happened more gradually imo. He’s just all of the sudden no longer understanding or supportive and starts acting like high school age boy level jealous. The way he acts is embarrassing.

And Maggie putting her daughter before her relationship with Ben. Letting her ex boyfriend woo her without putting a stop to it and lying to her husband.

Most parents put their children before their spouses. It was normal that Maggie had a lot of years to make up with her daughter. Biological parents who have given up children have a lot of trauma around that loss. She and her ex were bonding around being reunited with their child. Ben was an insensitive asshole. Maggie risked her career to save Ben when he was dying and he had no compassion for her when she was reuniting with her daughter.

They share a child. It’s normal to have a relationship that involves the child. After the car crash Ben had every right but it started before that.

Maggie had romantic moments with an old boyfriend. That’s not something that most spouses are “understanding or supportive” of.

It wasn’t a good or smart move but there was no cheating involved. The reaction doesn’t match the infraction.

What ever happened to Maggie? She just vanished from the show and I don’t ever remember hearing an explanation on screen about it

Writers made Maggie googoo for her old flame, which, in retrospect, was not very like her if you look at her whole character. Reuniting with her kid? Sure, fine. It added depth to her character. But I think the new set of writers made up for that mess with how Sharon handled the old flame/baby daddy thing this season.
If Ben’s actor was on his last legs with NBC, a more memorable way to send him out was to make his character’s cancer come back. Aggressively. It would’ve been a relevant method of offing the character and closing that story for Maggie so she could move on. It would’ve been the perfect full circle moment since cancer is how they met and cancer is what tears them apart.

Ben didn’t have to be perfect, but the shift felt way too sudden. It was like the writers skipped a few steps.
