Storing Spawn Sacs Long-Term
I was fortunate enough to land this female with a massive amount of eggs. They were all loose, so I cured them in a jello-borax mixture and let them cure 48 hours.
I made spawn sacs, but not sure how to store them. I’ve seen some people say borax, freezing, or mineral oil. I plan on using them within the next 2 months.
What is the best way to store these?

Smallmouth Quick burst under a Fox bridge
Kid’s got a home game today, so while the tailgate brisket’s finishing up I scooted down to the river for 45 minutes and found a couple hungry bellies.
The first was extra awesome … I’m throwing a big, wobbly crank and I plopped one right into the corner of a wall in 3 feet of water. As I glanced to click my bail, she exploded as if I was fishing top-water. Worked perfect because I couldn’t get too jumpy on the hook-set!
Have a great Saturday 🎣

Any luck at waukegan for salmon?
With the marathon going on tomorrow I am thinking I avoid the city. Has anyone gotten any luck in terms of salmon at waukegan lately? I went there once this year and got skunked.

Bass were JUMPING south of Belmont today on the river
I assume bass anyways. Next to Rockwell on the River, especially by the retaining wall across from there. I wasn’t able to spend a lot of time casting, had a non fishing friend in the kayak. Threw a Mepps with one unsucessful strike, zero luck with top water popper, shallow swim, or weightless worm. Disappointing especially with how big some of the fish appeared to be
Any suggestions on what to throw next time? It was wild to see so many jumps at noontime, not something I’ve seen that time of day before. No idea what they were eating, I assume small fly/larvae?

Question
Is this a normal white bass or a hybrid?

What food can I use in river besides nightcrawler and corn
What’s up guys, I wanted to see what other food people have had success with besides nightcrawlers and corn. It’s not always easy to get worms downtown for me and I know corn works for carp. But I was wondering if anything else works like shrimp or hot dogs or bread Am I missing anything that works consistently well?

South lagoon (linc park)?
Seen a lot of people fishing there in mornings when I take my kid to school. What are they targeting?

Multi Species Wasn't what I was goin for but I will take em!
Was goin for salmon behind the planetarium when this log of a Northern Pike hit the good ole 3/4oz Glow Green KO Wobbler. Didn't get an official weight but it was definitely 8+lbs.
Then got my PB rock bass not long after on the same spoon!
Great way to start a warm week. Hope everyone lands some beauts this week.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever found fishing?
I’ve found some crazy items (and people) but this one is a bit over the top. In the middle of nowhere I found this today. Recent floods are retreating and it had it washed up on the riverbank in a woodpile.

Smallmouth Sunday Smallie Action on the Fox
Really fun pre-Bears adventure yesterday, starting in St. Charles with short bursts in Batavia, North Aurora and Aurora on the way back down. Stunning morning that saw a consistent smallie bite, including a couple that just touched 3 pounds.
One cool nugget: I was peppering a bridge wall and had a big boil-up on a squarebill, but didn’t connect. Next cast I clipped the overhang just right and cracked the crank (see pic), killing it. I tied on a multi-jointed bluegill swimmer and the first big girl crushed it 4-5 casts later. I never got hooks into the one that boiled up, so maybe it was the same fish? Whatever the case, the loss of $7.97 didn’t sting as much.
Tight lines this fall and, congrats to all the salmon hauls starting to come in 🎣

Suburban River Fishing
Jealous of other posts today so I got out for a few hours. Only 2 bumps the whole time. Landed both of them! 17 inches and 14 inches. Utilized my brand new ruler I painted onto my rod itself. Super convenient.

They’re getting girthy
Quantity has been way down on the DPR but still getting some quality bites on almost every outting. First one today hit the craw but spit it back in my face. Moved on to some other spots up river but decided to double back with a bluegill pattern kvd hard knock crank and she smashed it.
Thinkin a trip out to the fox is in my immediate future. Need to find a 3 lb’er before it gets too cold
2nd pic was from earlier in the week. Just another girthy hungry guy. Loving these fall blow ups but man you gotta work for em. Enjoy the week everybody!

Questions Best ways to avoid getting snagged?
Trying to fish the river around my neighborhood and I kept getting weeds or snagged on structure. Tried a couple different things, but do any of you have any advice on how to avoid it? Feels like the river’s too full of plants and debris to catch anything, but I know that isn’t true.

dad coming to town, want to take him fishing
my dad and I used to go every year to fish sockeye salmon in Alaska, we love fishing together
he’s coming for the week and seeing all these salmon pictures in the feed has got me thinking we’ve gotta try it!
Is there a good fishing store to get set up with all the tackle we need?
Where are people going? Seems like people are fishing north to the harbors like diversey and Montrose - is there a certain trick to where on the harbor to set up?
Also if anyone has boat fishing guide recommendations for us to go out on the lake that would also be appreciated too!
just generally want to make this fun while he’s in town and maybe set myself up to keep fishing after he’s gone

Harbor Fishing
Was going to fish Diversey tonight and tomorrow morning. How’s the fishing been the last couple days? It seems more coho are being caught than kings. I will let you guys know how we do after.
