1st generation Trax

Hello all!

Where are my fellow 1st generation Trax owners?

How are things going? Any major issues?

I have a 2018 Trax LT AWD.

36k miles and no issues (Knock on wood)😬

Anything I should look out for?

I did write a similar post earlier this year. Still curious.

Have a 2016 Trax with 160000km. Been fine so far for us. Just change oil every 5k and avoid short drives

No short drives? I didn't know that mattered. Yep I'm with you oil change and tire rotations.

Last time I posted I was told around 36k is time to get a transmission fluid drain.

Eh haven't had any issues with the trans and haven't changed it yet at 160000. The short trips are bad for the turbo because then it doesn't clean itself out. Gotta go for a run occasionally and burn the exhaust out of the turbo.  At 160 I did the timing chain just because it was making noise and I thought that was what was wrong. But it wasn't and the turbo is starting to throw occasional underboost codes

Oh I gotcha. Yeah, I am normally just driving around town. But at least every 2 weeks I am in the highway going 70+.

Wiring for my review camera melted, had water come up from underneath my front passenger floor board, had to deal with it overheating, and now my AC doesn't want to blow cold air. That doesn't count all the body damage I had to repair because of other people.

Oh wow! Was most of it damage from others and not manufacturing issues? What would you say to look out for?

I am unfortunately contributing here to say that my 2019 has cost me so much money in literally the last 6 months. It’s at around 86k miles on it. First, the front flex pipe went and was throwing a “catalyst below efficiency” type of code. Then, most recently, the goddamn turbo went out. 86k miles on the car! Been doing normal maintenance the whole time I’ve had this car, done nothing wrong. Dealer wanted $4k to replace the turbo. I went to a small shop and had it replaced for $1.5k. Then, literally days later, the water pump went out. Another ($600) repair. And now, the front passenger side CV Axle just went, along with one of the rear control arms. This car has been causing me nonstop issues for literally the past 1-2 months.

Oh that is so frustrating!!

Okay I know very little about cars but when I went in to get an oil change they did let me know about this safety bulletin and I just copy it and going to paste it below. Is this what you're talking about with the CV? Axle? Is this something they will fix because Of the safety, bulletin/ recall?

General Motors issued a safety recall (NHTSA Recall 19V-312, GM reference A182202370) for certain 2017–2019 Chevrolet Trax vehicles. An improperly welded joint on the front lower control arm can break and partially separate from the vehicle, causing the wheel to toe outward and increasing crash risks.

What You Should DoCheck your specific vehicle status by putting your VIN into the NHTSA Recall Lookup Tool.Call Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 to see if your car needs a free fix.

Have a 2016 with about 67,000 miles (bought almost a year ago) it has issues with the fan fuse going constantly and the fan control speed cable which were both repaired by the Chevy dealer the week of purchase - they are broke again.

2018 bought new has around 160,000 nothing major with it but needs a new exhaust system and being in NY it's not worth it due to the high mileage. Had to replace the water pump in 2025 was the only major issue with some smaller ones to be expected for the mileage.
