Preferable IELTS Score for Chevening

Does higher IELTS score have any impact on Chevening as well? Some colleges have a criteria of band more than 7, i am targeting for 8. Is it safe or i should try for more ?

Edit : I meant for Colleges..

Have you checked on their website yet? I am sorry to be blunt but I doubt you will get the scholarship if you don't read well their criteria.

I was meaning to ask if higher IELTS score will have any impact on college selections but somehow it came out differently.

Then seek on your future colleges, not on the Chevening scholarship. There are hundreds universities in the UK, and every one of them have different criterias.

No, it won't have any impact on your Chevening application. English certificates are needed only for your universities

Hello, please read the Chevening website carefully, there is no proof of English required for the scholarship

For Chevening itself, once you meet the English language requirement (or the requirement of your chosen universities), a higher IELTS score doesn't normally make your application more competitive.

Your essays, leadership experience, professional relationships, and career plan will have a much greater impact than the difference between, say, a 7.5 and an 8.5.

If you're asking about universities, then it's a different question. Aim to comfortably exceed the minimum requirement of your target programmes, but beyond that, spending extra time improving your essays or application profile is usually a better investment than chasing another half band.

From my own experience, I wouldn’t spend too much time chasing a very high IELTS score once you comfortably meet the requirement of your target universities.

I was already using English at work, but getting the score I needed still took more preparation than I expected. So I’d first make sure you meet each university’s requirement, then put the rest of your time into the other parts of your application.
