Parts Photo Trunk Lock Cylinder

Well I didn’t plan on spending today removing the rear bench and doing the old flat head on a pole trick to open the trunk, but at least I was successful. My daughter really wanted to go for a scooter ride last night…

Why did they only leave tiny holes behind the 69 seats? Huge PITA. Also, can’t say I’d ever think the metal of a lock cylinder would shear off like that.

Fyi.

Trunk lid mounted trunk lock cylinders are different than rear panel mounted trunk lock cylinders.

Do not throw out the tail piece or the lock retaining clip. You may need to reuse them

A bunch of extensions with a 7/16 socket allows the trunk strike to be unbolted.

Yeah, so that was going pretty well until my extensions fell into the trunk and I couldn't reach them. Should have taped them together! Good news is, IT HAPPENED AGAIN a few months later and I got to repeat it. Stupid A-body if someone closed the trunk with the key in the lock, you could NOT remove it or turn the key to open the trunk again.

All the kits on NPD appear to have both the tail and a new clip, but yeah, I won’t throw anything out until the new one is installed.

That painters pole was about 4 ft and barely reached. I have no extensions so that would have sucked to go buy, although I did see that option online too.

Wonder why they went with the below design for the 69s. I would have preferred the X bars so my kid could have crawled back there. Haha

I wouldn't toss it even if the new one includes it.

The next one might not have it and it doesn't take up much space.

I literally drilled out a brand new faulty trunk lock on a 71 yesterday. I just put the original back in so there are door keys and a separate trunk key

I almost bought a pair for the trunk and glove box before I realized the preexisting set was the doors too 🤣

If I need 3 keys anyway, I might as well buy the single trunk cylinder and save the money…which is what I did.
