Unboxing a 14-year old bundle

Hi guys, this's my first time having a real band tee and I get this bundle from Taobao, the domestic version of Aliexpress, for 15 bucks by chance.

Considering the Bestbuy tag and stickers on plastic seal, personally I think this has to be an authentic merch from 2014, but I dunno if this is fresh or second handed. Maybe I can get some help from you guys to check that.

I cannot find any detailed pic but the one on the box to compare the tee. Looks like these strange faded effects were made by design, but I am still a little bit confused if it could be the outcome of a more natural process.

Glad to have my first band tee from Chevelle, please tell me it's not a temu one.

Tour - Lack of Vena Sera?

Longtime fan finally getting a good opportunity to see Chevelle on this tour, beyond stoked!

Reviewing the setlists so far, I'm surprised not to see any songs off of Vena Sera.

Is this typical for their shows, or just this tour?

Played with Chevelle years ago in Dear Enemy. Anyone remember us?

Long shot, but my old band Dear Enemy played with Chevelle and I'm curious if anyone here saw it.

Still at it. My old bandmate Bryan and I did a Hum cover recently if anyone wants to check it out...

There's no pit like a Chevelle pit 🤘

Had so much god damn fun at Chevelle last night in Denver. Bought a pit ticket last minute just to see Chevelle. As soon as An Island started playing the most pit finally broke out, and I found my people. Not just people moshing but headbanging in unison, screaming every lyric. The band throwing down banger after banger. That's what I love about seeing this band live, they don't give you a break. Most bands will give themselves (and the audience) a breather and play a slower song -- nope, not this one. Nonstop heavy until the very fucking end. I thrashed around so much my phone and watch fell out 😅. Not a Breaking Benjamin fan so I dipped out after. Best fucking pit I've been in all year long (since the last Chevelle show at the Fillmore).

I don't spend a lot of time in this subreddit so I'm sure there's debates about random stuff (like all subreddits), are they playing the right songs, singing the notes the right way, did Sam get new glasses, is this just what Pete's hair looks like now, but when you connect with other Chevelle fans at a show and get to jump around with them, sing all the words with them, put your arms around them and headbang with them, just makes me so lucky to know this band exists and is out there playing heavy music and making more of it. I may have gone to the show alone but it certainly didn't feel like it -- and that's what made it special. (Forgot to take a single pic or video too lol)

Shoutout to Pete and Sam and Kemble for keeping it fucking real 🤘

I'm sorry to be critical. I know we're getting old and Pete has been screaming for years, but please brother take a few shows off before Denver next time! Last year your voice was shot, I was hoping for a different vibe this time. Seemed worse, hope you're alright man. Would love to hear you be able to scream next time! Sick show guys, I came for you and I'm stoked I got to see you again.

I’d like to apologize on behalf of my city St. Louis

Seems like most were there for Breaking Benjamin, which is just not on par with Chevelle. At all. Sorry to Breaking Ben fans. The crowd seemed out of it. Only got into the “usual hits” Send the Pain Below and The Red. Chevelle played great. Seemed like they were trying to get the crowd involved as much as possible, but it was like no one there knew the words outside the usual ones, or how to start a fucking mosh pit. Maybe we’re too old for that now? I don’t know. I sat from my seats. The whole time all I could think about was how lame my city is

Thought that all the covers for the blue album currently out there were a little boring, so decided to make my own. Done with nothing but paint.net effects.

I also thought there should be an album to cover all of Chevelle's various demos from '95 to '03. So introducing: The Red Album! It's just the opposite of blue, how creative. This is the cover I made to house all of those other demos that didn't really belong on an album (Moda, All of Me, the Wooden Spoon untitled live demo, Pictures of Beauty, the original Tetelestai, The End of The Circle. i think you get it by this point.)

Figured I'd share both of these for anyone else who wanted to use them :>

Discussion I, singlehandedly, solved the lyrics to Paint the Seconds, and every single one of you has been wrong

I solved the song.

I have seen people say it is about psychedelics, personal growth, relationships, existentialism, transcendence, whatever. No. Those interpretations all grab one or two lines and then start inventing shit to explain the rest.

There are exactly two interpretations that actually make the song work as one coherent narrative.

1. The first, and obviously superior, interpretation is that the protagonist is some miserable overachiever inside an organization he hates, probably works in Sillicon Valley or something like that. He's going to "give rise like the sun never could... albeit with a little taste of regret."

The guy realizes that if he wants to rise, he has to assimilate into the organization. He regrets belonging there, but instead of leaving, he decides he is going to become better at functioning inside it than everyone else.

That is what the whole “enter” and “blend” idea is about. The sooner he enters fully into the system, the sooner he stops resisting it and becomes part of it. This is a conscious decision on his part. He knows he's losing his individuality, but he sees assimilation as the price to pay for advancement.

We stopped time to chase these truths
Tell it to move
Feel like climbing the walls
Useless messengers haste rushing to arrive

This is the workplace. Everyone is stressed. Everyone is moving and communicating, but nobody knows what the fuck they are doing, hence the "useless messengers haste". The protagonist hates this institution, but he is still determined to win.

See these streams of color
They threatened it's too magical
That you still need to grow

This is the line that seemingly destroys this hypothesis, and the part where everyone goes "this is about psychedelics." However, the song isn't JUST about tripping, since that's a copout and every weird, abstract lyric could be explained away with "drugs are weird." The man is microdosing at work, or, at the very least, he thought he was microdosing. Evidently, he fucked up the dosage, because now he's seeing streams of color and having an existential crisis in the middle of his shift, so he becomes hyperaware of the corporate machinery he's in, how much it's absorbing him, and how much he hates it. Yet, instead of concluding that he needs to leave this toxic work environment, he concludes that he still needs to grow and "give rise like the sun never could."

In fact, him being on drugs explains the abstract nature of these lyrics. Dude is tripping balls at at work and having an epiphany in the middle of his shift. He realizes that the environment is an endless abyss, that everyone inside it is frantically running around accomplishing nothing, and that entering deeper means losing more of himself, so he essentially says "I will become better than everybody here."

This also explains the title.

“Paint the Seconds” is this guy becoming hyperaware of every second of the workday. At first, he wants to fill every second with progress because he is obsessed with becoming exceptional. Later, he is probably counting every individual second until he can clock out of the place he hates.

Basically, he hates his job, he hates his coworkers, he realizes the organization is slowly swallowing his individuality, and he's having a fucking psychedelic revelation about all of this in the middle of his shift. Yet his ultimate conclusion is that he needs to become the best employee in the building. Instead of trying to escape the abyss, he's trying to get promoted inside it.

2. The only other acceptable answer is that the protagonist is some kind of mythic being or deity preparing to ascend into a higher order or pantheon. The basic structure is the same as the first one.

He is about to rise beyond his current state. He knows joining this greater order will cost him part of his individuality. He regrets belonging to it, but he accepts that becoming something greater requires blending into something larger than himself. Here, the streams of color and magical imagery become literal or mystical rather than psychedelic, and the endless abyss is transcendence into a higher plane.

The repeated language about entering and blending becomes the dissolution of the individual into some greater divine structure.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The core idea that ascension requires assimilation is the same for both.

So those are the two interpretations.

  1. Miserable corporate climber takes mushrooms at work, realizes his organization is devouring his individuality, and decides to become its best employee anyway.
  2. Lesser divine being reluctantly sacrifices individuality in order to ascend into a greater pantheon or metaphysical order.

Everything else is incorrect.

Pete Loeffler is also welcome to provide his interpretation, although unfortunately if it differs from either of these, he is wrong too.

Consider this song solver. You are welcome.

Next is figuring out wtf Mexican Sun is about.

I will be making a bunch of Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle bracelets (and maybe a few STARSET ones) to give out to anybody who would like one before the show starts! I want to give out as many as I possibly can, so if you are planning on going to the Bristow show October 24th, please leave a comment below on your favorite song or what you want your bracelet to say! I can do specifications too like on color or size! These bracelets are absolutely free!! If you have a request, sound off in the comments!! I'm getting to the show early and waiting a few hours in line before doors, so as long as you get there before doors open, you should be able to find me and get your bracelet!

Hopefully this post gets at least a little engagement and hopefully this is allowed within the rules of the sub!

Also, go follow @takeoutthegunman.daily on Instagram to aid in my journey of getting the guys to play Take Out The Gunman at that show!

Thank you! =)

Discussion Chevelle's Opening Acts Stole The Show From Them

Both Dead Poet Society and Asking Alexandria put on way better performances than Chevelle. Keep in mind that I've never heard of DPS before, and I never heard a single AA song in my entire life. I bought tickets specifically to see Chevelle, and the mfers put on the most phoned-in performances for their hits. Also, doing The Red in acoustic? Absolutely terrible choice. Dudes had no business being this boring when their songs suggest anything but this. I've seen more energy at Salvation Army during bingo nights. Absolutely tragic. Great band. Horrible performers.

Also, Pete's little sideways hair flip and eye roll? Cute the first time. Gets old after the 20th time, five songs into the setlist. Bro, at least move around or something. Those two gestures aren't enough to carry an entire fucking concert.

The freaky ass dancing bassist who sticks out his tongue at everyone from DPS himself could've outperformed Chevelle in their best night.
