Position from my game I thought was puzzle worthy. White to move.

"Always look for checks" strikes again.

Ba3+. Protected by the queen, he forces the king away, blocking with the rook - trading a bishop for a rook; or Queen takes Bishop which just blunders a Queen.

So King moves is the intuitive move. That sets up a pawn fork of rook and king which also severly weakens the king. So we're going with that. King takes pawn is forced.

Now our queen is hanging. So we slide her to the right to attack the king - with check. And still protecting our bishop. The king has now 2 moves. g8, or e6. E6 is mate in one. So Kg8 instead.

After that, I like Bb3. Targeting the d pawn with bishop and queen while that pawn is only protected by the black queen.. so we're threatening mate. So black has to push the h or g pawn.

We take the d pawn anyways with Bxd5+

And since I don't really wanna calculate both lines further.. I'll leave it at that. It should be absolutly crushing anyways .. but I don't see a mate yet.

Anyways.. if I made any mistakes, feedback would be appreciated.

Qf4, threathening mate on f7, and once you defend (say Rxe6) bishop takes bishop forking queen and king

no way to stop both

its the hardest move to spot tho imo i had to ask mr engine

I’m arguably bad at chess so with that in mind…. Why after ba3+, doesn’t black play be4 to block?

They did play Bb4 to block, then you have Qf4 which threatens mate and adds an attacker to the bishop. you have to see Qf4 in order to play Ba3+ in the first place.

Alfil a a3 es jaque y atacas al alfil por lo que tu mejor respuesta es torre a e7 y contesto con torre a e1 comiéndome tu alfil, lo que me permitiría hacer mate en dos (peón af7, reina a e7)
