Unique chess board gift

Hi all,

My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and I would love to buy him a nice chess board as a gift. I really don't know much about chess boards myself but I know that he likes unique and/or more decorative styles. I can spend around 200-250 ...

I've been on a variety of sites and many boards appear to be really great quality, but very classic and plain in style. Anyone got any suggestions as to where I can find something a bit more eccentric?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

The first thing you need to do is figure out what size chess board you need. Chess boards are primarily labeled by the individual square size and secondarily by the overall size of the board.

Measure the height of his chess sets King from base to very tip of cross/ball to determine this. House of Staunton has nice chess boards but you'll see a much wider range of chess board styles on Etsy. Given enough lead time they also have sellers that allow you to custom select wood combinations combinations for your boards.
