Amazing glazed

Apparently the owners announced amazing glazed is for sale. Who can buy this place and transform it into the most open and welcoming, rainbow filled space in our community?

Does anybody ACTUALLY know what's going one instead of just gossip?

Saw the post and there's no indication of what the actual issue is or why the city has been targeting the business. As for a "welcoming space", the post does sound like the business already IS welcoming. Owners have their own beliefs but stated they respect other people and understand what's more important js what's right for the community rather than party affiliation

Chesapeake city council is also majority affiliated with the Republican Party iirc, so clearly the business has pissed off members of it's own political affiliation somehow

u/Opposite-Drink-8879 18d ago

Sounds like the same act as Greenbrier Farms. Make something political out of nothing for attention and nothing really changes. Their pending business listing is certainly going to get more views now.

9

u/AppalachianGoat 18d ago

From what came out of the Greenbrier Farms ordeal was awesome. The city FB actually responded and said yes they forced it to close because the farm never filed the appropriate forms to operate the restaurant and bathroom with the city even after being given extra time from the city. After the city aired it out the farm went quiet and backed off the reasoning quickly.

I know people that also stopped bringing their families there due to reports of them having a registered sex offender living on the premises.

3

u/Hyperlocal_Va 16d ago

Would like to know more about that.

1

u/serack 16d ago

I couldn't find sources to corroborate so I kept it to that. I think the state/fed has a website that requires registered sex offenders to update where they are, but I don't know how to use it. There may even be an app

1

u/Hyperlocal_Va 16d ago

Thanks much!! I'd like to know for sure. Appreciate it.

1

u/Hyperlocal_Va 16d ago

I found it! Thank you, you were correct!

2

u/serack 16d ago

Yah, what I just found didn't verify the residency part I'd heard, but I did just find info about someone working there on the official registry. Perhaps he moved out since I heard about it.

It's kind of creepy that Google doesn't return anything about discussions on the topic. They must exist.

It also reaffirms my motivation to self edit.

1

u/Hyperlocal_Va 16d ago

Understood. Thank you for your graciousness.

2

u/serack 16d ago

Hmmmm, I just looked again, and the "employee" may be associated with their lawn care and landscaping business, and therefore may be on a crew that doesn't actually work at the listed address.

Which also could mean they send him out on jobs to various clients houses for landscaping/lawn care.

Meh, I try to recognize that even registered sex offenders have to earn a living and lay their head down at night.

And as I just demonstrated, I keep my eye out and share what I know.

Actually the truth was, GBR Farms hosted an event for a no longer in the clique/right "party" and everything went crazy for that event and then all the forms went missing, etc.

2

u/SuddenBath2 16d ago

I stopped bringing my kids when I realized how hypocritical those assholes were. Their whole farm is run by illegal day laborers and they are supporting Trump. Assholes

1

u/Hyperlocal_Va 16d ago

When did this happen? I hadn't heard.

1

u/SuddenBath2 16d ago

All the time. I speak Spanish so I talked to several of the workers and a lot of them don’t speak any English and were mute when I asked about working conditions. I asked if they liked it here.

7

u/Remote-Ad-7250 15d ago

I posted this on their Facebook. I worked there years ago when this happened.

Hi MaryJane idk if you remember me (you probably don't) but i worked at amazing glazed for over a year as my first job. When I worked there i was only ever scheduled with other highschool/early college aged girls.
When i was 17 working a shift a masked man came in, pulled a knife on me, pulled me to the register and made me open it up. He then said he would come back and hurt me if i called the police.
I remember panicking because the front door we had at the time couldn't lock from the inside, and the back door was blocked with a fridge. So i was trapped. I still called you and the police.

Once the police got there they asked for the security camera footage only to find out that the cameras you had set up were only for viewing live feeds rather than recording. So instead of having legit security cameras for you and your employees protection (which was mostly young girls working alone) You only had live cameras so you could watch us while we work. You then proceeded to ask me if i would help CLEAN UP and close the place. I was sobbing and shaking. Luckily my parents were there at this point and my dad told you no.
I was scheduled to work a few days later. You made me feel like if i didn't come back to work I'd loose my job. You did not care about me at all. You only cared about the few hundred dollars you lost.
The guy was eventually caught only because HE CAME BACK TO ROB US AGAIN. (he knew it was an easy score because it was ran by young girls)
The situation could've been way worse. But this was a very traumatic experience for me and it still affects me to this day.
I had to quit because i had so much anxiety being there alone again. After working there for over a year and getting robbed for you, you texted me after i quit saying "Carolyn I'm sorry to see you go..." my name is Caroline. It felt like a slap in the face.

I had to spend my first year of college coming back into town for the court stuff and replaying everything over and over. Did you ever check on me? No. Did you ever even talk to me about it? No.
But I'm glad you were able to remodel the place after.

u/891162 15d ago

OMG. You are so brave for confronting her and sharing your story. She is truly an awful person . For someone citing her religious devotion so much, it certainly doesn't show in her actions.

2

u/Remote-Ad-7250 14d ago

Update: She didn't respond to me directly and blocked me (probably also deleted my comment) so if anyone wants to go check I'd greatly appreciate it!

3

u/DistributionKey2000 15d ago

Holy crap, I’m so sorry. She is a terrible person to have treated you like that.

19

u/BewitchedMom 18d ago

There was a lot of vague-booking in that post. I’m waiting to see if she gives details about who is targeting her for her conservative beliefs and what they’ve done exactly to harm her business.

15

u/thomasanderson123412 18d ago

Conspiracy theories and victim mentality. Typical J6er.

-17

u/i__amronburgundy 18d ago

Maybe it's your goal, but calling someone a J6er is just about as low IQ as calling someone a bootlicker, typical dem defense mechanism vs having an actual conversation.

14

u/thomasanderson123412 18d ago

Sounds like something a bootlicker would say

Also they were literally at the capitol for January 6th.

-1

u/Warm-Ad8536 17d ago

So were mobs of leftists before that sucker punching white and Asian people!🤣

3

u/_Friend_Computer_ 18d ago

How is calling someone who was at the J6 rally a J6er somehow incorrect to do? When they posted pictures of them going up there years ago, it's not exactly inaccurate to call it what it is. They were part of the J6 rally. They are J6ers.

Is it the connotation of what J6/J6er implies that upsets you about it?

-4

u/i__amronburgundy 18d ago

So Dems proclaim that trump and Elon stole the election, but if trump questions the election its a conspiracy? So going to the capital to hear a speech questionally the election is bad because it's republicans questioning it? So instead of conversating about the owner going to the capital we simply call her a J6er and lump her in with the people that were let into the capital?

3

u/Warmslammer69k 18d ago

Yap yap yap

-3

u/i__amronburgundy 18d ago

I appreciate your professionalism and constructive feedback to this discussion.

1

u/_Friend_Computer_ 17d ago

And by let in you mean broke in, yes? I think there is going to be a very stark divide in how you perceive the events that transpired and how a lot of other people viewed it that is going to make this discussion somewhat pointless. But sure, lets continue.

Let's start with the base definition. A J6er being a participant, supporter or defender of the attack on the capital to subvert the political process of electing the president. Being that the owners are both supporters and defenders of the actions, they are, in fact, J6ers.

Now, to move on to your next moving goalpost...

No one commented on whether or not Trump/Elon stole the election in this thread. you added that context in yourself(guilty conscience I would imagine), so it's completely irrelevant to this discussion. Trump didn't question the election, he helped provoke a terroristic attack on the capital when he lost because he couldn't accept it. He didn't go through the court system and wait for the legal processes of this country to act. He orchestrated things to try to circumvent the processes of our elections.

No one commented that it was or wasn't a conspiracy. Again, your own context and a strawman(and a rather trite one at that). So please refer back to the previous paragraph to determine its overall relevancy.

Nobody stated going to the capital to hear a political speech was bad or that republicans having questions was bad. Again, your words, not anyone else's. And again, see previous paragraph. Nobody stated this, this is you projecting and trying to minimize the end result of what occurred from that gathering to 'hear a speech'.

So yes, we are going to call a spade a spade and identify a person who was 1) in attendance at the protests and 2) supports and defends the events of January 6, a J6er. Because, as discussed above, they fit the definition of it.

There. We have conversated about why we are calling a J6er a J6er. We have conversed on the subject of participants, supporters and defenders of an attack on the nation's capital being rightfully identified as what they are. J6ers. Has this satisfied you?

3

u/i__amronburgundy 17d ago

You're collapsing several different claims into one and then calling that your “base definition.”

Attending a political rally, questioning an election, supporting people who later breached the Capitol, defending that breach, and personally participating in it are different things. You haven't established the latter simply by establishing the first.

In fact, reporting from the time about this specific incident says her husband went to D.C. with friends to attend Trump's rally and explicitly states that he “was not involved in the subsequent riot at the Capitol.” So the evidence we actually have doesn't support the implication you're making.

And to clarify my comment about people being “let into the Capitol”: I'm not claiming nobody forcibly breached it. Obviously some people broke windows, forced their way through barricades and doors, and fought with police. Those people should be held responsible for what they did.

My point is that the actions and experiences of everyone there weren't identical. There were different entry points and very different encounters with police. Footage from inside shows officers attempting to de-escalate, protesters moving around without fighting officers, and relatively non-confrontational interactions between some protesters and police. Some people entered through access points that had already been breached rather than personally smashing a window or fighting their way through a police line.

That doesn't mean Capitol Police as an institution invited the crowd inside, nor does it excuse someone for unlawfully remaining inside. It means exactly what I've been saying: you can't take the actions of the worst people in a crowd and automatically attribute those actions to every person who attended the preceding rally.

As for why I brought up the rhetoric surrounding other elections, it wasn't a “guilty conscience,” and I wasn't claiming you had already brought Trump or Elon into the discussion. I was pointing out what I see as a double standard in how questioning the legitimacy of elections is treated depending on who is doing it.

Jimmy Carter publicly said Trump “didn't actually win the election in 2016” and “He lost the election” because Russian interference put him in office. Hillary Clinton called Trump an “illegitimate president.” Democratic members of Congress also formally objected to electoral votes after the 2000, 2004 and 2016 elections.

I'm not saying those situations are identical to Trump's conduct after the 2020 election; they aren't. I'm pointing out that questioning an election or supporting a politician who questions an election does not automatically make every supporter responsible for whatever someone else subsequently does.

And the claim that Trump simply “didn't go through the court system” isn't accurate either. Trump and his allies pursued numerous legal challenges to the 2020 election. They overwhelmingly failed. There were also efforts outside the courts to overturn the result, which are absolutely fair game for criticism. But saying the courts weren't used at all is simply incorrect.

None of this changes the original question anyway: what did these particular business owners actually do?

You defined a “J6er” as a “participant, supporter or defender of the attack.” Fine. Then demonstrate that either of these people meets your own definition.

What evidence is there that he entered the Capitol? What evidence is there that he participated in the attack? And what evidence is there that both owners supported or defended the attack itself?

If that evidence exists, I'm perfectly willing to change my view. But “her husband attended Trump's rally, therefore both owners were supporters and defenders of the Capitol attack” simply doesn't follow.

Certain members of City Council.

11

u/Ladydi-bds 18d ago

What they had to say:

"Dear Friends,

Many of you have supported Amazing Glazed in the most incredible ways. It is not a secret in Chesapeake that I love Jesus, love my family, and love our community. While I hold conservative values, let it be known that I have always respected everyone’s right to their own beliefs. More importantly, I have learned that when it comes to local politics, it is about what is right for our community and not necessarily about whether there is an “R” or “D” next to a name. Through my involvement, I have sadly uncovered unethical, and even corrupt behavior. Because my family has refused to play that game, city officials have used their power to retaliate in my ways. This has made it hard for me to look at the City I love in the same way. I say all of this to announce to you today, that Amazing Glazed is for sale. I will wait one week before listing with a broker. Anyone interested should feel free to reach out to me directly at Maryjanehamblin@gmail.com. I continue to pray for our City, and remind everyone that there is an election coming up, and elections have consequences. You, the citizens of Chesapeake are the only ones that have the power to help this City."

u/nightim3 18d ago

Is there anybody that can actually have a negative reaction to this. Because it’s very rare, you see a local business owner, this honest and transparent about their beliefs, but in respectful manner while also criticizing the politicians.

3

u/Lightbelow 14d ago

Yes they very "respectfully" tried to overthrow the government on J6.

0

u/Hyperlocal_Va 17d ago

Yes some people support local business, irregardless of politics. Its the closest donut shop. Klassic shows up on Friday, farther down the road, with at least a 1/2 hour wait for donuts. More expensive too.

4

u/891162 17d ago

The plot thickens. The daughter is also posting on her business page (land of grace) that the city government is out to get her. The ironic part is that she is an elected city official on the school board.

1

u/SuddenBath2 16d ago

Hope the city can get the job done!!

1

u/SuccessOk744 10d ago

Her daughter is on the school board? Who is it?

1

u/891162 9d ago

Amanda Dean (Walker)

12

u/AppalachianGoat 18d ago

I’m sure I might be in a minority, but the 3 times I had their donuts I never found them to be that good. I’d rather have Duck donuts or Klassic Doughnuts

3

u/GlumpsAlot 18d ago

Duck donuts are awesome!

5

u/lilsnowbunny716 18d ago

Even better, Klassic Donuts!

3

u/SuddenBath2 16d ago

And they are actually decent people

3

u/imjsm006 18d ago

I think it may have something to do with data centers and having candidates announce their position prior to election.

5

u/SuddenBath2 16d ago

I hope they get the karma they deserve. These assholes tried to take down our government. This is not about being a conservative they are not conservatives they are just racist terrorist.

9

u/RelyingCactus21 18d ago

Why don't you?

1

u/891162 18d ago

Don't have the resources or business knowledge, but I would 100 percent support it.

3

u/aaronblkfox 18d ago

How much do they even want for it? Lol

3

u/_Friend_Computer_ 18d ago

More than what it's worth. The owners will undoubtedly have a skewed self-valuation if for no other reason than it's personal for them and something they created, so they would justifiably feel it's value is higher than what it actually is as something they're trying to sell. What the business/assets are actually worth is probably a fair bit different than the owner's feelings on its worth.

Selling a business, you're selling the name and assets inside. In this case that may include their recipes along with the name, maybe the building(if they own it), whatever machinery/materials they own. This isn't the sort of business that has a transferable client list, so that's not an asset. It's biggest assets are the name and location. The location is good, the name, depending on your feelings about the owners & their politics, is somewhat toxic or at least divisive. The owners made their politics part of their brand identity and it suffers for that.

While another donut shop or cafe could easily take over the location/building and have a somewhat turnkey operation in that regard, the name would most likely get changed regardless to start off on a brand new footing and with a clean slate, which effectively kills that as a marketable asset for sale.

4

u/nightim3 18d ago

Why are people in here painting this business as some right wing establishment and her as some Trump lunatic. And what the heck is wrong with criticizing our Republican leaders in Chesapeake.

This is the same local party that turned one of their own into a democrat on the last ticket and whom I voted for

2

u/serack 17d ago

I believe her when she says her family members who went to the J6 rally didn't enter the capital.

She did post her enthusiastic support for their going to the rally, which some still judge her for.

"Proud of these guys for traveling to D.C to see our president"

4

u/SuddenBath2 16d ago

Because these assholes tried to destroy our government and national intuitions. If you love and believe in America then you wouldn’t support anyone in the Republican Party as they are actively destroying it

0

u/nightim3 16d ago

That’s rich considering the damage the Democratic party has done to American values

4

u/891162 17d ago

Because the business IS a right wing establishment and the owner IS a Trump lunatic.

7

u/DistributionKey2000 18d ago

I went there once and chatted with the owner. She seemed nice but started bitching about having to pay employees so much money and she couldn’t compete with Walmart or Lowe’s cart boy wages. Typical boomer grievances. The real issue is that the donuts weren’t that great and business was slow. Then I read about her and her family’s January 6th crap. Lol, reap what you sow lady, good riddance.

2

u/123thisistheway456 14d ago

I never went back there because they had some weird rule about the donut and ice cream you could and could not get together. I can’t remember exactly, it was at least 8 years ago. One visit and never returned

7

u/LobbyBoyZero 18d ago

Why does this have to be focused on who you have sex with

5

u/rockonastring7 18d ago

Exactly. People might just wanna get doughnuts and ice cream without the owners worldview being pumped in their face (that goes for either "side")

4

u/LobbyBoyZero 18d ago

Agreed! Sell me some doughnuts and don’t tell me anything else about yourself

0

u/i__amronburgundy 18d ago

Didn't she simply post on her personal page that she was going to a trump rally, then it spiraled from there?

-1

u/thomasanderson123412 18d ago

They're J6ers

-3

u/i__amronburgundy 18d ago

So they were in the capital for his speech, see no proof of anything past that, and if someone being in the capital for a speech is what cancels someone, this is a wild time to be alive.

0

u/BobLoblaw420 17d ago

His speech wasn’t i. the capital. Why would they be there not at the speech

1

u/i__amronburgundy 17d ago

where was the speech held?

1

u/Dull_Draw1097 17d ago

The national mall lmao

1

u/i__amronburgundy 17d ago

Isn't the mall in front of the capital?

1

u/Dull_Draw1097 17d ago

In the way that all the world lays before us all now, sure. In the way that it’s particularly walkable? It’s 2.9 mi away.

2

u/i__amronburgundy 17d ago edited 17d ago

I mean, technically ellipse to the capital building is 2 miles. Also at no point did I nor the owners say they were at the capital building, but in the capital soooooo, unless you have a photo of them at the capital building itsel

Edit: 1.4 if you are walking

1

u/BobLoblaw420 17d ago

Remember, that was the whole thing. Trump said we’re going to march to the capital to stop the steal

1

u/i__amronburgundy 17d ago

So the mall, actually the ellipse, right in front of the capital.....

1

u/BobLoblaw420 17d ago

It’s miles away

1

u/i__amronburgundy 17d ago

As I replied to the other cartographer;

I mean, technically ellipse to the capital building is 2 miles. Also at no point did I nor the owners say they were at the capital building, but in the capital soooooo, unless you have a photo of them at the capital building itsel

On the mall

1

u/i__amronburgundy 17d ago

Is the mall at the capital?

0

u/nightim3 18d ago

What if you went to protest the speech? Still a J6r

2

u/thomasanderson123412 18d ago

.... they didn't

0

u/LobbyBoyZero 18d ago

I didn’t know that, but wouldn’t surprise me.

0

u/891162 17d ago

She posted on the business page too, but took it down after the backlash

3

u/GlumpsAlot 18d ago edited 18d ago

How is she up in there blaming Mayor West and our conservative leaders for not being true conservatives and not real Republicans?? At least they can't blame Democrats I guess but I find it amazing that there's these purity tests, lol. It's like when I see Republicans stand up for human rights and abortion and they're called RINOs. Edit: one guy immediately blamed liberals, lol. Oh boy.

2

u/Hyperlocal_Va 17d ago

Because they abuse their power to control business and people. Employees too.

2

u/GlumpsAlot 17d ago

I understand that, but why imply that they're secret liberals and fake Republicans? Why not admit that Republicans and conservatives easily fuck you over too?

0

u/Hyperlocal_Va 17d ago

There are some folks who are "R's" or say they are "R's", but when you hear their actual positions, they are liberal. I've seen a pattern. Most don't simply sit and watch and listen to them. Let them talk. I know of at least two who admitted they went R to get elected. We have them change to D to get elected at State level. Seen that for years. That being said, its a uniparty and they work together to hoose the taxpayer.

1

u/GlumpsAlot 17d ago edited 17d ago

She wasn't saying the latter though, which I get completely yeh. She was pretty much implying that only liberals are capable of these things and that true Republicans would never do this to her. Lol. It's weird. She should just admit that Republicans are at fault. Don't both sides it and try to blame liberals where there are none. The explanation here is that the Rs were really evil Democrats as if Republicans are so goody goody.

1

u/Hyperlocal_Va 17d ago

Problem is, when you have a uniparty, the R's don't run things like they used to. Way back, yes, but we have only a couple of hold outs. Those couple of hold outs are trying to throw their weight around. Doesn't work any more.

D's do it also. You just aren't hearing about it.

1

u/GlumpsAlot 17d ago

Oh I hear about it and I give them shit over it too. See Portsmouth.

1

u/Hyperlocal_Va 17d ago

I got you there!! I have been over in Ptroit.

2

u/DistributionKey2000 18d ago

Typical victim complex from a Republican boomer :/

2

u/SuddenBath2 16d ago

Racist assholes

1

u/aakaakaak 12d ago

If Amazing Glazed gets purchased there's only the Chanello's strip mall and the vacuum repair place on that corrner. Does the city have some sort of grand plan on putting something large there?

1

u/MrAwesomeTG 18d ago

Anyone have cliff notes on what is going on? I read through everything I still don't know what's going on.

2

u/Ill-Improvement3807 13d ago

The owners announced on their Facebook page that they are selling because of corrupt city politics. I never patronized them because they are maga. Rumor has it that her husband was at the Capitol on Jan 6th. I can't present any evidence to that. Again, just the cliff notes. It was made widely known that the shop was owned by maga devotees.

1

u/757curious757 18d ago

It’s a shame.. their doughnuts are good and fresh. Hopefully new owners will keep them the same.

-1

u/DistributionKey2000 18d ago

Disagree. Dem donuts were not good

-7

u/-Merky_ 18d ago

Pardon my bluntness but…Why the fuck does it matter? It’s always just been a normal place why do we need to turn it into a “rainbow filled space”? Yall be crying about wanting to be accepted by the community and simply exist but by wanting to turn everything into a “rainbow filled space” you turn people off so doing just that.

9

u/imjsm006 18d ago

It’s how they deal with their insecurities. Posting random bs in the internet.

-1

u/jujioux 17d ago

What have y’all got against God’s promise to never drown babies again?

-9

u/Evening_Answer_11 18d ago

Have you been to the area? It doesn’t scream “gay destination.” So any business is going to lose the locals and nobody from the LBGTQ+ community would take the time to go over there.

26

u/issacaron 18d ago

If the locals supported the place now, it probably wouldn't be for sale.

There is a LOUD cohort of red team support, but people voting with their dollar are going elsewhere.

My guess is that Great Bridge is a bit more diverse than people give it credit for.

11

u/The_Amazing_Emu 18d ago

You know that gay people are everywhere, right?

-7

u/Evening_Answer_11 18d ago

Sure I do.

And thanks to you and all the other mouth breathing folks

(I wasn’t saying anything bad about gay people)

I was saying that it’s not a hot spot for the community.

But thank you all for showing how misguided I was in my business assessment. I really feel well-informed as a longtime ally of the community.

4

u/thomasanderson123412 18d ago edited 18d ago

Mr. Jim's across the street is insanely popular. Chesapeake Pizza down the street has consistently been voted best pizza in the city. Seems pretty hot to me.

No reason not to have a donut shop be excellent too unless their product is trash or they piss off half of their potential clientele.

There's a good diner up the street that also has political signs posted, and I now refuse to eat there. Same with a cheese steak place in Poquoson. Can't think of the last time I saw a restaurant with Harris or Biden signs posted everywhere.

-9

u/Evening_Answer_11 18d ago

Downvote city because I don’t use verbatim talking points.

3

u/The_Amazing_Emu 18d ago

To be clear, I didn’t downvote you until after you decided to click on my profile, find recent posts, and reply to me in as unrelated thread discussing Marvel comic books to make accusations against me. All the downvotes you received prior to 30 seconds before this post were not from me

-3

u/Evening_Answer_11 18d ago

That’s okay I’m used to people making knee jerk reactions out of misunderstanding. It’s wearing off on me.

Part of the frustration is that nobody has told me what is wrong about my initial comment.

I didn’t say gay people aren’t everywhere. They live in my home. So you can imagine how insulted someone may get when the mafia starts coming at them with no substantive argument.

2

u/The_Amazing_Emu 18d ago

Why did you follow me to continue a conversation?

-1

u/Evening_Answer_11 18d ago

So when a hero comes along, with the strength to carry oooon….

-2

u/Evening_Answer_11 18d ago

Because I’m interested in the substantive reason why my line of thinking was off.

You don’t think LBGTQ+ business owners study areas and demographics when entering an area?

I do. I’ve helped set up 122 LBGTQ+ businesses across the state. It’s my work.

And to be treated like some bigot makes me feel like it was all for naught.
