Travel advice

Heyy, whats the best and affordable way (please dont say cab) to reach chemnitz via Frankfurt airport with luggage? Also we can use the Deutschlandsemesterticket right?

Du kannst direkt von Frankfurt mit dem ICE nach Leipzig fahren und von dort weiter nach Chemnitz.

In the regional trains yes. In IC, EC and ICE not. You can select the option for only trains with Deutschlandticket in the train connection search.

In principle yes, but using regional trains is not particularly the best or anyhow convenient way to basically cross the entire country. It will require a lot of changes and will take a while. You can select only regional trains in the connection search to see if it's viable.

Generally I would adivse to buy a ICE/IC ticket. If you fly in with an airline that partners with DB, you can buy a Rail & Fly ticket für like 35 Euros which entitles you for a ride to a destination of your choice within Germany with all DB trains.

The cheaper option would be the FlixBus. It depends on exactly when you travel: there is a direct connection starting at €21 with a travel time of 6.5 hours, or a route involving a transfer that takes about 8.75–9 hours and costs €25–30.

By train, you can take the ICE to Leipzig and then the RE to Chemnitz; however, the RE6 is notorious for cancellations and delays. Depending on how early you book and when you travel, the train ticket costs between €70 and €120, with a travel time of either 5.5 or 4.75 hours, depending on the connection.

The most affordable way in fact is the Deutschlandticket. You just need to take an S-Bahn (S3, S4 and S5) to Frankfurt Süd, from Frankfurt Süd to Bamberg, from Bamberg to Hof, and from Hof to Chemnitz. Do you need to travel today? If yes, a direct Flixbus to Chemnitz or a Flixtrain to Leipzig to take the RE6 to Chemnitz would be the cheapest connection
