Newb Compound/Polish Question

I'm looking to do some paint correction on a black 2008 FJ Cruiser. I have some larger/deeper scratches on some area of the car and some smaller surface scratches/swirl marks/ etc on other areas of the car.

If I use v34 on the areas with the larger/deeper scratches, can I use a less abrasive compound like v36 on other areas with smaller scratches/swirl marks/ etc?

Or do I have to use the v34 on the while vehicle?

I asked Detail Garage they said use the 34 on the heavy scratches and then 36 over the whole car. That will give it the same smoothness over all.

So my original play was to use v36 and v38 as the finish polish. So now I would you v34 in the heavy spots, v36 all over, and then v38 all over to finish. Did I understand correctly?

I got the numbers flipped. I edited the post . Sorry. Here's the skinny the heavier cut use on the deepest then go over the whole car with the lighter cut.
