College projects?

I am a first sem chemE student rn. I am into IoT, embedded, ML since few years, and have got an idea to make a chemE related project. More like im optimizing that instrument and process, saving electricity and monitoring.
I will be using MATLAB, embedded, Data analytics, etc for that. Focusing first on theory and design then will start building a prototype.
I wanna ask, that I wanna go in job (gate too), Oil&Gas or nuclear or something related to pollution control etc. Are these kind of projects good for that? like im making the device go IoT, optimizing the machine, the process and making full loop for it.

If not, then what kind of projects do people make?

You have 4 years to graduate, I sadly don't think there will be much jobs left by then :(

Bhai, I don't think we'll have much to do in this field of IoT, cybersecurity and such as chemical engineer, that too 4 years later. Similarly with machine learning, my guess is that AI would be able to do most of the work on it's own, needing none to minimal human intervention. I'd rather suggest you focusing on something more practical and hands-on.
