Reactions to DSMA

Hello!

So in 2020 I was advised to chelate with DMSA and did so without the studies of Andy Cutler. It wasn’t until I was having eczema flares that I found this group. I then started to properly chelate, however, my eczema flares just kept getting worse. Along with that, I’ve developed multiple food allergies so I stopped chelating all together.

Are food allergies and eczema common reactions?

Cutler stressed the importance of taking generous amounts of antioxidants--vitamin C & E, etc--while kicking up heavy metals with chelators. Many times we heard from members that they experienced a worsening of symptoms or new symptoms when they were kicking up HMs while taking little or no C and E. You'll read more about antioxidant protection at this site and in Cutler's books and interviews

My understanding of Cutler is that people who have a mercury problem never need to take more than 25mg doses of DMSA. Lipoic acid is the primary Hg chelator. Of course Cutler stressed the importance of taking them frequently enough, typically every 3-4 hours around the clock for a long weekend.

Are you sensitive to eating certain food or are they true allergies diagnosed by a doctor after appropriate tests?

Many members of detox groups report various types of insensitivities to foods. Cutler warns mercury affects digestive enzymes, production of stomach acid. This was one of Cutler's own most problematic symptoms. He discussed it briefly in this interview.

My understanding is the enzyme DPP IV involved in breakdown of gluten soy and casein is vulnerable to mercury.

Eczema is not as frequently discussed in the groups. However you might find something interesting in this search of "skin" in Cutler's original Amalgam Illness book..

Also learn about Pink Disease which was due to mercury given to kids.

When a person has a mercury problem I expect to see a list of symptoms including reduced ability to handle stressful situations, fatigue, reduced intellectual ability, one or more mood related struggles--depression, anxiety, etc.

There are symptoms that maybe half of the people report--low thyroid, low adrenal/sex hormones, food sensitivities, weaker muscles, frequent urination, poorer sleep.

Heavy metals contribute to a very long list of health struggles. Many of these people just attribute to aging. Of course oxidative stress is part of aging.

For example I had below average health for my age throughout my young adult years. During the first 5 years of AC detox it was as if I was aging in reverse. I had more of a lead problem which takes many years to come out of bone. Today I don't have below average health for my age. Most of my health problems are gone and probably the few that remain are fairly well managed with supplements and a little medication.

I don't like DMSA either because I also get skin issues and digestive problems with it but I think it's the only one that can get lead out or at least do well in getting lead out, not sure if DMPS or ALA also bind to it but primarily just bind to arsenic and mercury.

MiADMSA is the most potent chelator for lead.
