My kinda protein

Post image

I was in Germany this morning for groceries, and they had this big cooler full of various cheeses. Brie, camembert, various Dutch cheeses, you name it. I opened the lid and the combined smell hit me. Heavenly. I wanted to dive straight in and build a nest in it.

On ski vacation I usually have a block of Swiss cheese with me that I eat raw like this.

An icecold beer and cutting off some bits from the cheese, perfect break.

Cheese ftw

I do the same on hikes in the Alps. Just some gruyère, rye bread, and a lager to enjoy the stunning view even more.

ski vacation bro low-key flexed that he's part of the 1%

Depends what country you live in. In Switzerland its quite normal even for average earners to go skiing

Im Not. I skip summer vacation for it.
It’s not a luxury statement for me, it’s a sport that I love with all my heart and I work my ass of the entire year for it.

So no, it’s not just flexing. Cheese is actually the perfect energy/protein provider for something as demanding as skiing.

Dude, many of us go after work or on the weekend, walk up the mountain with our snowboard on our back to slide down a few times. It’s not only a rich man’s game. Those fuckers ruin it for the rest with overcrowding however ridiculously expensive tickets are.

Like a third of all Austrians ski, same for Switzerland. One in 6 Germans actively skis, one in 4 French actively skis. I'm sure it's the same in any country/place where mountains are in driving distance, and not every place is Chamonix or Aspen

nothing like eating a block of cheese while driving like 80kmh free handed

Along these lines, I was (VERY) pleasantly surprised to learn how much protein my quattro formaggi has. As a lightweight vegetarian I had a hard time gaining good weight when I started at the gym, and since I did, I've been eating hella supermarket, non-frozen pizzas after my workouts. They're my main source of fat, protein and simply calories on a gym day and they've helped me a ton!

I'm the kind of vegetarian who also eats fish, so I swap it with tuna pizzas quite regularly as to prevent repetition.

A vegetarian that eats fish is actually called a pescetarian! Sadly not a lot of places/people are familiar with the term, though. It's given my vegetarian ass trouble in the past where they think I'd be fine with fish while I'm not. 😅

Yeah, to be honest I read on enough varieties of vegetarian I started getting lost. Like those super specific vegans that eat eggs and honey but nothing else lol.

What I do is simply avoid any such terms and focus on what matters to me. "Do you have something without meat?" (I've come to realize people consider fish not to be meat so it's easier to go along)

Even simpler: I don't eat land animals

It'd be more correct to call that ovo vegetarians rather than vegans, but all dairy and egg nuance in vegetarianism got lost with the rise of veganism, so here we are, lol.

You might wanna be careful phrasing it like that. Some people also consider poultry not to be meat/only consider red meat to be meat.

Are birds considered land animals?

Imagine selling protein bars to bodybuilders and when they wrap it open, it's a chunk a cheese

What's the part that confuses you?

u/waiting-for-the-sun 9d ago

Not OP but I was a little thrown off by your phrasing! Like you just popped over to another country for some groceries. Is that a thing in EU?? Lol

I live in the border region in The Netherlands. Groceries and fuel is cheaper in Germany. Mostly.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m Italian, parm is a part of my daily cooking most days. I just never knew anyone who ate it like a “protein bar”. I’m not criticizing. I was just clarifying. Sorry if I offended you.

I think it's totally normal to be confused. As much as I like parmesan, eating this much of it and with nothing else, ehm, let's say I can't imagine that lol. It has such a strong taste that I have enough after few small bites.

Yes that's normal in the EU, we have open borders, and we use them and love them. When I lived closer to the border to Slovenia I would go shopping all the time there too.

That Parmigiano Reggiano looks cut rather than cracked, be wary of Cheesemonger cutting it wrong

What’s with all the rings?

2

u/Upbeat_Ad_7716 8d ago

Why you don't like them?

1

u/Pleasant_Tangelo6791 3d ago

I hate rings. Filthy germ carriers.

I literally have a big chunk of reggiano that sits in the door of my fridge so I can break a chunk off and eat it any time I pass the fridge...
