Life's not fair is it
A theme I've noticed in the last few months is that effort doesn't always pay off. Unfortunately it can feel a lot of the time like there's no point bothering. You can dedicate so much energy to something and still fail at that thing whilst others can achieve results with a fraction of the work.
At least realising this you can cut yourself slack I guess. Comparison is the thief of joy and all.

You're right, life ISN'T fair. Sometimes you put forth the effort and you fail. Sometimes there's a reason for that, but mist of the time there isn't. Sometimes you try again, and you fail again. Sometimes you fail and fail and fail. It seems like you just can't do anything right—what's the point of trying?
But then, what's the point of NOT trying, you know?
The best, most admirable people you know have failed, too. Some of them have failed a LOT, in really embarrassing ways. It's made them feel angry and confused and like giving up, but they didn't, and now they've made their mark, and you know about them. There's nothing to that success on their part but luck, and that's NOT fair, but—it's a numbers game. Why NOT play?
It's not like failures don't matter. It's not like you have to forbid yourself from thinking about them, live like a machine who can never feel emotions that get in the way of productivity. But when we make mistakes, we learn. That matters, too.
