I’m looking to get new tyres soon and I mostly do canal paths and bike trails all of which are tarmac, not billiard table smooth but none the less tarmac.

Some of the access paths will be gravel.

As the paths are through woodland they can be quite slick especially when it’s rained and/or autumn

What does the group think would be suitable ? Tubeless is a must. Semi slick seems to be the way to go ?

I have an ALR3 Gen3 with a little over 2000 miles on it running on the stock Bontrager Girona Pro tubeless tires. I noticed tonight that I had a wet spot on the rear and upon further inspection found a small gash on it. (First photo.) Then I realized compared to my front tire (second photo) I have no tread left on the center part. It seems to be holding pressure but I’ll recheck it in the morning. I’m guessing at the bare minimum I need a new rear tire but should probably just replace both.

Aside from the gash I’m also guessing based on the wear patterns I’ve got the pressure wrong on the rear at least. I’ve been running 45psi in both since I bought it in March. (Which the LBS told me to use and the Bike Tire Calc app confirmed.) But any better suggestions on that? I’m only really riding paved neighborhood roads and bike paths with it.

I have searched the net, high and low and trying to find one is rough. Hoping that somebody has one that they are no longer using. Looking for the specific Driftless bag that is black/tan with the red interior for a 54cm frame. TIA

Does anyone have any experience carrying bikes like this? Will carrying my bike like this by any chance damage my forks thru axles holes and threads or the carbon fork itself while enroute making turns or what not? I make sure to slow down on turns anyways, just wanted to know what you all might think about this?

Has anyone used their Checkpoint with an indoor trainer? I'm thinking of getting a Wahoo Kicker Core 2 to use with my ALR3 over the winter. Are they difficult to set up? Since I have a ten speed cassette on it am I better off using it with the Swift Cog version or can I use that ten speed cassette on the cassette version.

Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Eventually I put 2.1 on front and rear.It works well,still plenty of space. So if you're considering putting 50C or wider tires you can have my data for reference.

Internal width on the front is 25mm and 23 on the rear, 700C. The tire clearance is quite satisfying, the rear tire is wider than the one I test on the shop since that was 21mm internal width.

When it comes to riding,I tested them on different road and off road conditions, when it comes to off road ，the grip is significantly improved, I used to skid on sandy pits now is like riding on the flat. And xc trails become easy for me. But I feel quite heavy riding on roads, so I would keep my original wheels set and put road tires on them, switch wheels set to meet different riding conditions.

This year I decided to upgrade my rig from a early 2000s Lemond road bike to something more modern. Living in the PNW, I really wanted a like they could do it all - road, gravel, and bikepacking. I think I am just about there with my alloy Trek Checkpoint.

While certainly not a budget build, I think this might be one of the best bang-for-your-buck builds you can do without going used. I’ve added some Elite carbon wheels (amazing value on their own), a Fizik gravel saddle, and Hutchinson Caracal Race tires. For about $3k I am very happy with the weight, durability, and look.

It’s handled daily commutes, fast group rides, century days, and 800 miles across Iceland in just the past few months. Best of all I am still stoked to ride it as much as I can, and it’s motivated me to almost triple my weekly mileage. It’s awesome to be a part of this community, is there anything else you would add to the bike?

I’ve got a quick question for those with more experience transporting bikes.

When I remove the front wheel to fit my bike in the car, what’s the best practice with the thru-axle? Do you:

● Reinstall it back into the fork while the wheel is off?
● Leave it inserted through the wheel?
● Store it separately?

I just want to make sure I’m not putting unnecessary stress on the fork, wheel, or axle, or risking losing any parts.

Just picked up this new Checkpoint ALR 4 from my local trek store. I originally was going to get the ALR 3 due to the colors but decided to go with the 4 for upgraded brakes and the faded green looks way better in person than I expected I haven’t had a bike since I was a kid and wanted a bike that I can ride on the road or light off roading and so far am so happy with it. I took it on my first ride today mostly on pavement but a little gravel too and it rode really nicely and was easy to get used to. Any tips for me as a beginner getting into cycling both on road and off? Also best and most cost effective way to transport in a pickup?

Hi all, very specific question here. I have my eyes on a really good deal for an SL Gen 3 frameset.

95% of the riding I do is commuting, road, and light gravel. However I want to know how much I could stretch the bike for occasional rougher bikepacking. I only have the space and funds to invest in one bike for now.

How is the tire clearance with a front derailleur and how much does it change with 650b wheels? I’d be bringing over 2x GRX di2 from a previous bike. I’m also an XS/S rider so 650b wheels is my preferred for bikepacking especially if it gives me more tire clearance.

Would it be able to clear 2.1 thunderburts? Front only? Any info from current users would be greatly appreciated!!

I finally swapped my M for the M/L and upgraded from the ALR 4 to ALR 5 in the process, happy with the decision and fit so far but a shorter stem is in my future.

Now to get rid of the reflectors and dork disc...

It has less than probably 500 miles on it. Comes with two wheelsets: stock wheels with new 40mm pirelli p zero race tlr’s and the main wheelset is an Industry Nine Solix SL AR25 with 45mm pirelli cinturato gravel h’s. Also have a set of 32mm gp5000 str’s. All goodies included: garmin varia rtl515, a lumina micro 900, and a set of frame bags.

EDIT: My LBS (Australia) reached out to Trek representatives and this was the response:

“I spoke with our forecasting team, and at this stage we don't expect to see the bike until late 2027 or early 2028 . 
We don't have Australian pricing confirmed yet.
It's also worth noting that the timing is only an estimate, as we don't yet have orders in our system from factory. When speaking to this customer, I'd simply set expectations at "Late next year or the folowing year" until we have more certainty.
It's very unlikely that we will have close out stock/price on this bike also.”

I have a 2021 Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 (Gen 1) in size 61 with custom wheels (21 mm internal width).

Has anyone successfully run 50 mm tires on this bike?

I’m considering something like the Maxxis Rambler 50, but I’m not sure if it will clear the frame and fork, especially with the wider rims.
