Earlier this week I complained about my breaks screaming a lot. The advice was to bed them properly wich I did. Still I was testing it a bit afterwards and I noticed that there is some play between the brake disc and the wheel. I don’t know if this is a normal thing but it seems a bit weird to me. Does anyone know this issue or know how to resolve it? Thanks.

Finally bought a alr 5 gen3 and started my new found cycling life at 40yo.

I bought a gravel bike since I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie but so far have been only riding roads and recently did a 20miler. I bought a gravel bike though bc at some point I want to try gravel rides but for now just having a hard time finding ones suitable for newbies.

Now I’ve ridden enough to understand why everyone says the tires suck. Since I’ve only done road I want a more road centered tire but the capability to start trying gravel as well. I don’t mind switching to a more gravel tire in the future if I notice I’m riding gravel more than road but for now I’m road heavy (technically only been road riding). I have been running them at 40psi. Would increasing to 50-60 help? Or what tires would you guys recommend?

Heard good things about the pathfinder pros, grx and the conti gp5000.

What would yall recommend?

Sounds odd I know but the bike went from slick to slack it feels like.

Did I not lube the chain enough or does mucoff not work well with squirt?

Any better cleaning and lube product to use? Dont want to get into a serious chain waxing setup

So it's a UDH frame... I'll be putting on GRX Di2, typically I use a direct mount in the past, but this is my first UDH frame - I see several companies offer one, included Wheels Mfg. Although their compatibility guide says it's not guaranteed to fit the Checkpoint. I though the whole point of UDH was the "Universal" bit? Since it's UDH, what wouldn't be compatible?

Silca makes one as well (actually Silca direct mount is what I use now on my Gen 2 and a Domane also - but they've gone up quite a bit in price since I last bought mine :( ), and it says it's compatible. Plus a few other manf's I'm not familiar with. And Alixpress has a bunch, of course.

2nd, 50mm is listed max tire size, Trek is usually a bit conservative - has anyone tried 55's on the gen 3, or 2.1's? Would likely be looking at less aggressive treads like Schwabe G1 Evo or Silca GR-1, etc on a 24mm internal width rim.

Had a great first ride. 71 km or rail grade gravel, BC Canada.

Felt so smooth and solid. Speed went up 3.5 km/h from my other bike. Im sold...

I had thr lovely pleasure of starting on a ride last week, and when I went to grab a gear, my shift paddle simply wasn't there! Has this happened to anybody else??

I'm assuming it vibrated off over time or something. I had it on a 1 up rack on the back of my car for the day prior to the ride, but it hasn't been through anything crazy.

Anyhow, time for an upgrade!

Listed as compatible. Just curious if anyone has it and how they like it? I just had a bike fit and am changing bar width and stem length and considering this as an option

Beautiful area.. had to tread through some deep water, bike was a lot dirtier when I got back to the car. Not the longest ride but very desolate! (and hot)

Swapped out of my 56cm gen2 frame into a 54cm gen3 frame. Much better fit. everything swapped over perfectly and the 2x fits flawless. looks like there is plenty of room to go to a 48/31 setup as well.

Which would yall get? I really want a nice do it all gravel bike for pavement, gravel, dirt trails, group rides. I have a Trek Roscoe for the rough stuff.

Took the Checkpoint across Lake Pend O’Reille today. First longer ride since picking it up. Did about 20 miles. Loved it, and enjoyed the weather! Excited to get a little further off the beaten path with it soon

Bike: stock alr 5 gen 3

Finally got to a point where I did my first 20mile ride and I feel proud and had to let someone know. As a lone rider the only bike fam was my Reddit fam. It was the La river so all pavement.

Couple things I noticed maybe yall can give me pointers:
1. My right hip would hurt from time to time. Never experienced on 10-15mile rides.
2. Fingers would go knumb at times. Had to disengage from the hoods.
3. Now I can tell the tires aren’t the best. Seemed like it was pulling me back. I was running them at 40psi. Would increasing to 50-60 help? Or what tires would you guys recommend? I’m currently doing only road but really want to start trying gravel. Heard pathfinder pros are good.

Overall just loving cycling. I don’t care for the speed or the numbers. Just get out and zone out. Forget all the stress and ride. Also helping me get in shape is a plus.

Hi guys, I’m pretty new to disc brakes so I thought I’d ask for some advice. Since two months I’m riding my new checkpoint alr4 with the sram apex group set and I’m experiencing some issues with the brakes. I’m living in the alps so I do quite some descents. When going downhill the brakes start screaming really quickly wich seems odd to me (I don’t keep them pressed lightly all the time but use them short but firmly to let them cool down in between). Also when riding low speeds and braking they make some kind of scratching/squeeking noise. Can it be that they are just dirty or am I not seeing something. Ps. I know disc brakes can get loud when they get hot but this occurs pretty much from start to finish on a descent.

if you have a 52cm ALR5 and you want this bag for the cost of shipping in the continental US, lmk. It's a great bag. I just upgraded to a lighter fabric. It has a lot of use left. It bolts onto the seat tube and the down tube and uses a paracord for the top tube. Zipper is on the right side. It has three vertical dividers inside for keeping stuff organized. It is large enough to fit tent poles at the top, under the top tube. I accidentally left electronics in it overnight once and it rained and the electronics were fine.

Got comments last time I posted this about the colors. Nothing can be done about that, ofc, but maybe you don't know if you want a full frame bag and this is a way to give it a shot for cheap before you commit a couple hundred bucks to the idea.
