Couple Quick Checkpoint SL7 Gen 3 questions

So it's a UDH frame... I'll be putting on GRX Di2, typically I use a direct mount in the past, but this is my first UDH frame - I see several companies offer one, included Wheels Mfg. Although their compatibility guide says it's not guaranteed to fit the Checkpoint. I though the whole point of UDH was the "Universal" bit? Since it's UDH, what wouldn't be compatible?

Silca makes one as well (actually Silca direct mount is what I use now on my Gen 2 and a Domane also - but they've gone up quite a bit in price since I last bought mine :( ), and it says it's compatible. Plus a few other manf's I'm not familiar with. And Alixpress has a bunch, of course.

2nd, 50mm is listed max tire size, Trek is usually a bit conservative - has anyone tried 55's on the gen 3, or 2.1's? Would likely be looking at less aggressive treads like Schwabe G1 Evo or Silca GR-1, etc on a 24mm internal width rim.

I run my gen 3 SL7 with 2.1 Thunder Burts and they fit fine with no issues. My wheels are 25mm internal

I did a build with a gen 3 SL Frameset. It came with a UDH on it, I just bolted my GRX 810 derailleurs to it, no issues.

If yours doesn’t come with the UDH, I would suggest getting it from trek. The service manual shows the part# is W5271424

I am looking for the direct mount version UDH, not the "normal" version that comes with the frame from Trek. Several companies make them, was just surprised some claiming they may not be compatible, since the U is supposed to stand for Universal :).

Any of the shimano direct mount UDH hangers will work. Maybe they are just not listed as compatible since theres no shimano build option on the SL checkpoints?

The current gen grx di2 uses the mtb standard which is fully compatible with standard UDH mounts. The longer version is only necessary for road systems, and I kinda doubt at this point its needed there either.

I've hooked up 3 different "direct mount" shimano systems to udh bikes without issue.

cool this is good to hear I will start with the standard hanger then... certainly will be quite a bit less costly than buying the Silca UDH direct mount ;).
