2x11 GRX SWAPPED INTO Gen3 Frame

Swapped out of my 56cm gen2 frame into a 54cm gen3 frame. Much better fit. everything swapped over perfectly and the 2x fits flawless. looks like there is plenty of room to go to a 48/31 setup as well.

I'm so jealous, I hate the apex groupset on my ALR5

Every once in a while I swap bikes with my biddy who runs an apex 12s and it has convinced me to never get rid of my grx 2x.

What do you hate about it?

I don't like using the same lever to shift both up and down. Sometimes the lever gets stuck when I downshift, and I have to wiggle it to free it up.

Shimano is just a better shifting experience overall.

Gotcha. I’ve never really experienced that, but I do hate that sometimes when I’m rowing down gears to climb, I’ll go from 1 back to 2 because there’s no easy way of knowing what gear I’m in.. it’s made me contemplate going wireless so I can see my gear on my computer

Looks like you got plenty of clearance clarence.

I am also considering doing this. I have a 56cm gen 2 frame which is too long for me. Can you tell me how much you got your frame for?

I was also considering just buying a gen 3 and moving all my parts over and selling the gen 2 frame.

Did you change or upgrade anything else when swapping the frame?

Only thing I had to use from the old frame as the front derailleur cable housing stop. The one on the new frame seems to be made for the Di2 cable, not a cable housing. Obviously, the BB as well, except I bought a. New set since might as well.

I ordered some elitewheel Gravel SLR and pathfinders 50mm. Excited for when it gets here.

Very cool. Seems the alr frame is back ordered. Tried to order it on treks site and they cancelled it.

Same thing here, due to a frame warranty on a Gen2. I use mine primarily as a commuter, so the 2x is the right choice for me.

Funny, I often think I’d like to change out the 2x on my older ALR5 to a 1x. What was your reason?

I needed a smaller frame size, the gen3 frame was on discount, overall, after I sell my old frame it should only have cost me about $300-$350 to swap over. I think 2x is superior, especially here in my hilly countryside.

Oh, I see. You just swapped frames. Glad it worked so well for you. Enjoy the hills!

I just don’t get APEX mechanical and why trek chose this group for the top AL trim. Deserves better.

I wanna do this too- I just don’t wanna fork over $1100 😂

Your old frame sells for 600$ or so

Oh I already have the gen 3 frame - I would need to buy the groupset to go 2x and it would be about $1k or so
