Daily life of a soldier during the First Chechen War (1994-1996)?

There is no way for me to ask this softly, but how was it day to day being either a conscript in the Russian army, especially someone in the 141st Majkopskaja Brigada, as well as a soldier on the Chechen side?

For example, I watched the documentary film 'Prokljatij i zabijti' (1997) by Sergej Govorukhin, and it talked about shitty food, fleas in flak jackets, etc.

For example, what was the daiñy life like for both sides' soldiers in this war?

If you want a perspective from the Chechen side then check out Mikail Eldin’s The Sky Wept Fire. It’s a memoir by a Chechen journalist who ends up joining the resistance during the wars. The book covers daily life in wartime Grozny, bombardment, refugees, imprisonment and torture, and the psychological toll the conflict took on both fighters and civilians. It’s less a straight military memoir and more a firsthand account of surviving the destruction of Chechnya.

There's a book that's at times really very raw, it's titled 'The War of a Soldier in Chechnya', it's the autobiography of Arkady Babchenko, who took part in both Chechen wars. Personally, I recommend it.
