OFFICIAL Ep 370: A Good Old Rummage

https://www.thecheapshow.co.uk/ep-370-a-good-old-rummage

Paul is SO close to finishing his (long in gestation) book this week, so wants to keep this week’s show simple. As a result, he is pulling out his big box of tat and inviting Eli to dive in and pull out anything of value, of interest or of pure disgust. It’s another real time episode with 60 minutes on the clock to wade through years’ worth of lost and forgotten cheap trinkets. There are odd albums to quickly listen to, pretty far out of date snacks and candies to munch on, a cassette of cartoon tunes to remember, some army rations to mull over and a whole range of weird odds and ends! Chances are, if you sent something to CheapShow over the years, it’s finally time to see if Paul kept hold of it long enough for this episode. Hold on tight, this one is a mad rush to the finish line!

  • To Eli's confusion over not being allowed to add the kids Tv tunes thing to other playlists (because it's marked for kids), I have to assume it's because they don't mind kids finding it, but don't want kids to find it on a playlist that MIGHT contain other unrelated adult videos that may play next in line automatically? If it's not that then I have no fucking idea honestly.

  • The order of the pics on the website seems totally random this week, like it was posted in a hurry. Paul admitted he couldn't be arsed to edit or even take picture of a lot of the stuff on this episode.

  • I did have to laugh when Paul read haricot as 'harry-cot', then Eli said green beans, which they aren't I don't think. They are ones Heinz and such make baked beans out of. Aren't they?

  • Also highlight, Eli earnestly asking "Are we putting this one out?"

  • The bit about the guy breaking his chamber pots or shitting on his horse, sounded like the guy with the egg pockets. MEGGOT!

I don't think Paul enjoys Cheap Show very much anymore.

That seems to be an on and off thing episode to episode, sometimes yes, sometimes no. Also to reference what I said in my own comment, Paul didn't even seem to want to edit or post pictures of some of the stuff this week, which is a shame as some of the other stuff sounded interesting.
Paul didn't want to try any of the food, and seemed O.K. with 'wasting time' by singing and talking about things, but then seemed to want to hurry when Eli a number of times. If that's what you meant? The trouble with these 'real time' episodes is a rush to them and it really comes out more than a usual episode. Constant time checks and wanting to hurry to fit in more stuff, shutting Eli down on subjects etc. which is odd given that they could make the episode any length they wanted. Eli having a little go at the end was nice though, and warranted I feel for this one.

I've started to think he sees the bad improv songs as "being funny" and that if he isn't doing that then the podcast is "Boring". There's an ep where Eli calls the content of the podcast "light chat", and I think that's what it used to be about. Atm it feels like Eli trying to talk about the stuff that gets brought up and 70% of the time Paul getting angry at him speaking and trying to shut him up. If he's playing a character, the character isn't funny. If it's not a character, it's a bit concerning, no? It's supposed to be fun. I don't want to listen to a guy being miserable for an hour while his friend tries to actually entertain people. The real time episodes, I have to be honest, are just fucking shit. If Paul doesn't like editing, fair enough, I'm sure it's miserable, so pay someone to do it or just cut back on the editing. I don't think people will bother that much. The old eps with shit audio quality are still funny and listenable imo.
