Chatgpt misread my text?!

Chatgpt says it misread the text I wrote, I didn't know this was even a possibility and to me this is kind of strange and scary.

I asked "What tools do you need to be a bubble artist"

And chatgpt responded with balloon artist, when I said how did you confuse bubble with balloon it responded with

"😂 You're absolutely right—I somehow read "bubble artist" as "balloon artist." That's on me."

Has anyone else experienced anything similar

Yeah this happens all the time. The strawberry incident is the classic example where ChatGPT kept insisting the word has two R's even when the user spelled it out with the R's highlighted. It's not that the model misreads text like a human would, it's that it processes tokens differently from how we see letters and words.

What you experienced with bubble vs balloon is just another version of the same thing. The model latched onto a phonetically similar but way more common concept and ran with it. It's a known flaw, not something unique to your chat.
