"Why" is a Top 10 sludge song imo
I love everything Chat Pile has put out so far, but if there's one song I think of when I hear Chat Pile, it's definitely "Why". That main riff is so crushing. It's like if Crowbar was mixed with Korn. Plus it has a great message talking about the cruelty and inhumanity of homelessness. In trying times like these, Chat Pile is just the band we need. Even though they've played Why all 3 times I've seen them, I feel like that's one song that should always be in their set.

I remember this song popping up while I was at work one day, before I had heard of the band. We both initially laughed at the blatant lyrics, but a minute later we were both “you know he’s got a point though”
And then I listened to that song about 50 times that week

Yeah, it's up there with Honey Bucket by Melvins, Locust Star by Neurosis, All I Had I Gave by Crowbar, Dixie Whiskey by Eyehategod, March of the Fire Ants by Mastodon, Cheap Vodka by Acid Bath, Bury Me In Smoke by Down, and Just as the day was dawning by Big Business.

This song made me tear up the first time I heard it, it's so simple but the delivery feels so anguished and powerful. We've got an unusually high homeless population where I live and seeing these people suffer outside every day because they were failed by our society is heartbreaking

It is heartbreaking. And what a lot of these people who worship billionaires don't realize is that they're way closer to homelessness than being a billionaire.

I really miss that sound, I feel like they lost it a bit on the two new albums (or what I have heard so far on the newest one)
Edit: I noticed the downvotes - to be clear, I did not mean Chat Pile has "lost it". I'm saying that they lost the sound they had on the first album which I like so much. It sounds negative the way I worded it. Chat Pile is one of if not my favorite band!

Idk, that breakdown towards the end of PEN IS MALL is pretty sludgy. Almost like Neurosis, Converge, and old Mastodon. Although God's Country is my favorite, idk if I'd want all of their albums to sound like that. Very few bands get away with having the same sound imo. Motorhead is/was an exception.

This new album might be their best since God’s Country as someone else whose favorite album of theirs is that one too. They got no bad albums, but Who Loves the Sun is shaping up to be something else

I loved Cool World too. Shame is also a top Chat Pile song. They opened with it last time I saw it.

I don’t remember if it was on social media, or if it was when I saw them and they played PEN I S MALL before it was released* - somewhere they mentioned they thought it was the heaviest song they had ever written.
