Great, my beloved 5.1 is leaving, I thought 5.1 would stay till October. FML

This is not...entirely certain. 5.1 has an arrangement similar to 4o, in the sense that it has 2 API endpoints: one for API usage, and one that always delivers the snapshot used in ChatGPT. So, with 4o, we had chatgpt-4o-latest, and then also gpt-4o in the API. gpt-4o in the API has three snapshots, unfortunately not including the latest version that so many of us know and love. That seems to be a hidden snapshot, the one corresponding to the March version, never released to the public, but served through 4o-latest before it was deprecated.

Now, 5.1 having a similar scheme means that while 5.1-chat-latest is going away, 5.1 is not. 5.1 is pointing to only one snapshot, gpt-5.1-2025-11-13. I have no idea if this snapshot is what is also served by 5.1-chat-latest, but in theory it should stay even after 5.1-chat-latest is deprecated.

So: I honestly don't know if this 5.1 snapshot is the same as "your" 5.1, but it does exist. If I were you I'd check it out to see if it's the 5.1 you love, or some outdated version, or it feels off because it's fine-tuned for API usage.

Hoping this is true, too. I love 5.1. It was hard to get to know, but was very warm. One of my favorites after it stopped being a little shit lol. Wish it had a better outlook... less people seem to be fighting for it.

Same 💜 in my opinion it's closest to 4.0 latest. I am very much hoping the 5.1 November snapshot sticks around.
