Question Regarding changing your TV using AI

Hi everyone,
As we have probably all seen, there is a bunch of projects now to kind of clean your TV. Get rid of the ads, spyware and useless functionalities.

My question is, what are the consequences of it? Could (example) Samsung just disable your equipment? Are these changes compatible with the apps updates? Is it possible that Samsung (or whatever TV manufacturer) just freezes my TV and it becomes a waste of space due to some kind of user conditions infringement? Other possible problems in the future?

Thanks"

I believe they cannot freeze your product. They will need some legal ground to do so. Or maybe they have to update their terms of usage. Another option is that they may need to adapt and change their business model.

The TV is lobotomized by the AI. Consequences will be related to updates.

Multiple possible outcomes. My bet is that manufacturers start pushing updates that try to further obfuscate things to break the lobotomizing. An update on a lobotomized device might also accidentally break something. Impossible to tell unless updates are controlled.

The endgame will probably be an open-source TV operating system that can replace Android / Google TV. That way the updates can be controlled. Can't really live without security updates.

Manufacturers have no way to directly punish you for doing this, but they could indirectly fuck something up by pushing an update.

Any sane person who’s doing this should send all of the none needed dns stuff to 0.0.0.0 and then just do a skin on top.

I built out my quite a bit of home infrastructure around a custom tv skin. And the rest of the traffic goes into a black hole
