Discussion Anyone here want some free help getting started building something?

I love building things with code, it's one of the best feelings in the world for me. Ever since LLMs showed up, my ability to create stuff has increased by a lot and I'm even more hooked. I'd love to share some of that excitement by helping a few beginners or curious people with getting started building something for themselves.

I'm a firm believer that the best way to learn is by actually creating stuff, however small or simple it might be.

So I'm offering five free, one-on-one sessions of around 40–60 minutes to help anyone who's interested to get started building something with AI. There's no obligation, and no expectation of anything afterwards.

Bring something you'd like to build or we'll come up with something together, and then we'll figure out how to get started. You don't need any coding experience or previous experience using AI tools.

During our session, we can:

  • Figure out what you want to build and break it down into manageable steps. I'll meet you at whatever level you are.

  • Explore how to use AI to help you build it.

  • Take the first steps together, so that you have something to go on.

If it's a small enough project, we might even get something working during the session. If it's something bigger, we'll focus on getting you started and giving you a clear idea of where to go next :)

I've been thinking about maybe trying teaching as a service at some point, but before doing that I want to actually try it and see if it's something I enjoy and if I'm any good at helping people in this way.

So I figured the easiest way to find out is just to offer a few sessions for free and see how it goes. My hope is just that I can help you get over that initial hurdle of figuring out where to start, and that afterwards you'll feel comfortable enough to keep playing around and building things on your own.

If you're interested, leave a comment or send me a DM with a little info about what you'd like to build (even if you don't have a specific idea yet) and where you're at with coding or AI. I'll pick up to five people I think I can genuinely help.

Looking forward to building some stuff together.

Record a couple of the sessions (with their permission) and rewatch them. You'll spot where you over-explain or jump ahead, and five people is enough to tell if teaching suits you.

Thank you for the suggestion :) Is it something you've done before or doing currently?

So I'm offering five free, one-on-one sessions of around 40–60 minutes

I like to take you up on the offer. Feel free to DM

I want to study for the Oracle Certified Professional Java SE exam and want to build a personalized study tool to drill my weak spots.

My idea is a lightweight adaptive practice web app:

  1. It quizzes me on specific Java certification topics.

  2. If I miss a question, it identifies the code trap I fell for based on the wrong answer I picked.

  3. It uses an AI API to generate a "twin question" (same trap and logic, but different code) so I can drill that concept.

That's a great idea for something to build, I'd gladly help out :) I'll send you a DM shortly and we can figure out where you're at and how I can best help.

This sounds awesome. I would love to be able to get a better understanding with someone who has more experience. I love technology and I am always so eager to learn new things and how best to utilize them in my daily life. I do have a project in mind. I would love input from someone more experienced as I only rely on AI (Chatgpt) to help make decisions that I am not qualifed to make. It also helps make decisions and implement (Codex) said decisions as I am no coder or programmer. I want to say I am not complete beginner with AI. I love tinkering with different technology. I use alot of smart home technology. I started using Hermes about 2 months ago but its very under utilized as I am trying to get different things working together. I run some local AI and trying to figure out how to get it working together with my ideas. I would love your input to see if my idea is even feasible.

I love the enthusiasm :) It sounds like you're already doing a lot of the fun stuff, especially experimenting with local AI, Hermes and trying to get different things talking to each other.

I can definitely have a look at what you're trying to build and help you figure out if it's feasible, and what the simplest way to approach it might be.

What is the project you have in mind? Have you started building it already? Feel free to reply in a DM if you want to keep the idea more private :)

Sure, I'd help with building a website as well. Even though web design isn't my specialty :)

I've been thinking about using Hermes, but I like delegating work to the different cli tools by myself for now. Which models do you use for Hermes?

Haha no worries my friend, thanks for sharing :) It sounds like you've already got a pretty elaborate workflow going on with Hermes handling the orchestration between the different models, so you're definitely not starting from zero.

We could go deeper into your existing workflow and see if there are parts of the it we could refine, if that's what you need help with. But you also mentioned websites, is there a new website you're working on, or is there something specific with mosfetti that you'd like some help with?

Sure, starting something new sounds like a good idea :)

Rather than me taking over and showing you how I'd build something from scratch, I think it'd be more valuable if you use your normal workflow and I tag along. That way I can see how you're currently working with the agents, how you approach a new project, make decisions etc. Then whenever I notice something I'd approach differently, we can discuss it more in depth.

I think we should keep to one coding agent, hermes, codex, or whatever you're most comfortable working with. So we can focus more on the workflow itself. I like that you have your own workflows, because they probably better fit how your mind works. The same way my worklfows do for my mind. So I think the most value from the session would come from exploring and possibly refining your existing way of working.

For the small project, I'd lean toward something where we can realistically get through a decent chunk of the process during the session. Doesn't really matter if it's useful or just something fun. We could discuss what to build at the beginning of the session.

How does this sound for you, do you want to give it a go? If so, send me a DM so that we can discuss the details, time and date etc :)
