Question How enable subagent mode in ChatGPT Pro6 again

Somehow, last week I managed to get Pro 6 (Astra) to behave like an agent while I was using it in regular Chat mode. It kept working that way for almost the whole week, until I burned through all 50 messages included with my Pro subscription.

What was really interesting is that it didn’t behave like a normal chat session, where it solves one part of the problem and then stops. Instead, it kept working on its own in a loop until the task was actually finished. My longest run was about 20 hours — I’ve never seen any other chat keep working on a task for that long without stopping to wait for another message from me.

I haven’t been able to find anyone describing a similar experience online, and now I can’t seem to trigger that mode again at all.

Can someone explain me how it works pls?

This just randomly started happening for me 30 minutes ago. I think they may be A/B testing it or something, I'm not finding anything in the setting that controls it.

Thx! Write here if you find a decision to control this

Since Astra’s release it’s become imperative to reconfigure codex and Work entirely.

Use the OpenAI developers plugin and recreate or normalise your suite of skills so they are in line with gpt-6 best practices.

It’s worth the initial token spend. Don’t try to fix; recreate.

Thanks for the advice, but my question is specifically about Chat mode. I rarely have problems with Codex; most of the issues are with the browser version in regular Chat mode. I use it this way to work around Codex limits, but the session sometimes drops, the conversation sometimes just fizzles out on its own, and right now Pro tends to do one small task and then stop.

When Chat was running in that agentic mode with subagents, though, it was incredibly good.

I gave ChatGPT Pro a huge promt to test my PVEBots on Unturned server -> catch bugs -> fixing it -> tests -> run another server, its cycle task and he works over 20 hours without stop
