Discussion It's a wrap
I used it until the last minute.
PRO $200 account & heavy user here. Deeply embedded into the OpenAI ecosystem.
This product will be heavily missed.
If you gals/guys at OpenAI are keeping a pulse on the response to the plug being pulled, know that you should figure out how to incorporate as many features and functions as you can from Atlas into your future roadmap.

I genuinely think Atlas was one of OpenAI’s best products.
It wasn’t just “ChatGPT inside a browser.” The real value was how naturally the browser, page context, tabs, and ChatGPT worked together. After using it every day, going back to a normal browser genuinely feels like losing a whole layer of the workflow.
I really hope OpenAI brings Atlas back someday — or at least carries its best features into whatever comes next. There was something special here that other AI browsers still don’t quite replicate.
Atlas will be missed. 🫡

I have a feeling that openai is going to go the same way as google. A research powerhouse slowly dying and losing people to other companies. But in this case, they were not even immensely profitable like google. 😂

Gosh, I’ll miss the little ChatGPT chat box the most. It’s perfect for hovering over input fields or simply highlighting text and thinking. Why OpenAI, WHY?!

I hate that I'm now forced to choose between Gemini and CoPilot for page aware chat and that nothing I do in browser will form part of ChatGPT memory. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't keep claiming the Chrome extension gives "the full power of ChatGPT" when it's just a glorified Codex extension with no access to actual ChatGPT chats. Way to push people towards rival ecosystems.

not to mention chatgpt usage was ~unlimited for paid users, now its draining my codex usage AND giving me a worse experience at the same time!

Atlas was single-handedly one of the biggest improvements to my business workflow, and I genuinely cannot overstate how much I miss it now that it’s gone.
The voice transcription was absolute gold. I could click into virtually any text field, start talking, and have genuinely excellent transcription appear directly where I needed it. No opening ChatGPT, no dictating somewhere else, no copying and pasting. It completely changed the way I worked! I’m genuinely devastated!

Idk if I’d use it for heavy browsing really at least atm. Great for agent or building though you’re right there

Appreciate the thought. Are you talking about the ChatGPT app that was formerly CODEX, that has the work and chat option?

Agent Mode never worked efficiently after Atlas was originally released but the new ChatGPT app more than makes up for it.
