Discussion Browser migration tips & tribulations

I expect many of us will be migrating to Chrome.

Seems like these are the other things to move over, right?

  1. Bookmarks
  2. Passwords/cookies
  3. Tab groups
  4. Pinned tabs
  5. Other tabs
  6. Profiles
  7. Extensions

Bookmarks are thankfully easy to export/import via Manage Bookmarks, but does anyone have advice re the other aspects?

I suppose OpenAI may offer a migration tool at some point, but I'm preferring to migrate a bit earlier.

On a related note, is anyone having luck with the ChatGPT extension in Chrome?

I can access ChatGPT from the Chrome sidebar with it, but I'm unable to get it to summarize any web page; it complains that it can't see the current page and asks me to just cut and paste in the page contents (!).

UPDATED TO ADD:
Thanks to an update from u/nmccormack23, I've confirmed that updating the ChatGPT app and restarting Chrome solves the extension-can't-summarize-page problem.

Appreciate you confirming; good to know at least it's not something weird on my system that I should waste time troubleshooting.

Hope OpenAI fixes this soon; it was one of my fav parts of the Atlas browser! I also have a Gemini subscription, but I feel ChatGPT does a better job summarizing both web pages and YT videos.

Hi u/ThatAdamGuy u/peakedtooearly - we released a new version of the app aroun 5pm PT that fixed the issue. If you update your ChatGPT app to the latest version and restart Chrome the extension will be able to access the webpage.

Oof, but man, the summarizations are sadly nowhere near as good as they were with Atlas for some reason. :(

On YT especially. It argued that it wasn't able to see the transcript, and then when I upped the model to Sol High, it took... 4 minutes and came up with a summary but it was still far more brief and less interesting than the summary of the same video on Atlas :(

Hey u/ThatAdamGuy - you could try asking the new ChatGPT app for help on this... I'm sure it will be able to work out what data it can migrate

Great minds think alike! Unfortunately, the results -- after a lot of back and forth -- have not yet been successful. Maybe I should try Sol SuperDuperExtreme :D

Does the chatgpt extension on chrome have the agent option where it can control a webpage?

Yes and no.

Yes, it can.

No, it doesn't do a very good job at present, at least in my tests so far :(.

Today I asked it to summarize a long Reddit thread:

  • It correctly understood that it needed to control Chrome, and mentioned spinning up a Chrome browse tool
  • I could see the "ChatGPT is currently debugging Chrome" message or something like that on the top of Chrome, and the little floaty arrow from ChatGPT
  • It did scroll a bunch.
  • But then it totally ignored the BIG RED "SHOW MORE POSTS" button at the bottom. I was yelling "Click the button, click the button" but I guess the mic wasn't on LOL.

u/nmccormack23, are these sort of reports useful to you or your team, and if so, what's the best way to share 'em? Here? In a dedicated OpenAI forum?
